Lervig Rackhouse - Black forest picante
4.9/5 review below from my Pint please
Being that this is the most expensive beer I have ever had (£19), I wanted to save it for a special occasion... Well today I had news I got a new job 😸
The second I opened the wax seal I was met with a chocolatey whiskey liqueur aroma... Beautiful pouring into the glass and smelling from afar you definitely get the black forest and bourbon . I could literally sit and just smell this all day.
Wow!!! The second it hits your palate it is literally a flavour bomb. You get all the flavours at once but some linger on the palate longer so you do get to taste them all separately, what's more is the nice whiskey warmth you get in the mouth. The vanilla and coconut really give it lovely cakey notes
In terms of mouthfeel this is not quite what I was expecting especially at the Abv it is. It's a tad thinner but honestly given how well the flavours already cling to the palate I don't think its necessarily matters in terms of flavours but more just because I do love a thick stout.
All in all this is another beer that is an experience as well as a drink.
And finally.... Was it worth the money? YES.
EDIT: The more you have, the more delicate the flavours become.... But in no way is this bad. The intensity mellows out and you can truly appreciate the complexity of this beer

2023.06.03 09:00 TheCurserHasntMoved (Sneakyverse) The Travels of a Galactic Cowboy, Part One: The Star Council, Chapter Nine: Corvian Home

First Previous Next
Skeeter had made an error. Not a big one, but one that did have significant downstream effects. He'd assumed that he could visit enough of each planet to give a sort of general feel to each one's character in three or four days, but it was looking more and more like he'd have to extend the stay at Corvian Home for at least a weak. He could scarecely remember being so excited by making a mistake. In most respects, Corvian Home was wildly different from Terra. From its many small islands to its ever turbulent storms, to its mediworld gravity, it was unlike any place found on Terra. It still baffled him that the xenos thought Terran gravity was heavy. The way in which it was similar had to do with the wide verity of culture, which made getting a general sense of the place a tad more difficult than planets with a more unified culture.
So, he had to ask Captain Vexkeed to extend the stay, which wasn't cheap. Additionally, it required the refund of any unsatisfied passengers who were on more time-sensitive journeys. However, it turned out that the majority of the passengers had apparently viewed the voyage as a "Sneaky Cruise," which made Skeeter laugh until he couldn't breathe when Captain Vexkeed told him. Likewise, when he told Suzie and Ivan, they found themselves completely overcome by mirth. Kip on the other hand couldn't see the humor in it. This, of course sent all three adults into the throes of hysterical laughter, which only further perplexed the boy.
The inscrutable, to Kip, Terran sense of humor aside, it turned out that apart from paying a fee to extend the journey and maybe five or six refunds, there was very little adjustment in terms of the We Bring Friends from Afar to Joyous Meeting making drastic changes to her manifest. Which was amenable to Skeeter's bank account, and his conscience. In any case, it let him fill out the itinerary with a wide variety of events from the local sporting events, to seeing interesting geological formations or particularly treasured vistas, to attending musical theater, to restaurant hopping in one of the larger cities with a conveniently cosmopolitan makeup. Even better, all of the things toxic to Humans, Doggos, and Lutrae were also toxic to the Corvians, so the risk of accidental poisoning was almost nonexistent.
"We actually discussed this in class last week," Kip was saying as the shuttle shook in the storm winds, "once a group went to a new island, the storms cut them off from the original group, except for the very few traders brave enough to fly in… well, this."
"That so?" Skeeter prompted genially.
"Yeah, for the most part I guess people would just float along with whatever everyone else thought, but I guess that's true for most places. Except, since they were separate and all, they didn't all go along the same currents, and so even islands that are pretty close can be crazy different."
"That, and it is ruining the landing shots," Ivan grumbled as he kept the camera trained on the trio.
"Well, back home rain's a good thing!" Suzie exclaimed exuberantly.
"Rain makes rye," Skeeter rejoined.
"Rye makes whiskey," Suzie laughed.
"You mean industrial disinfectant or emergency stomach purging doses," Kip said flatly.
"How'd you find out about that?" Skeeter asked.
"Greg George mentioned it in his book. He dumped so many doses in a glass that any sane person would think he was trying to poison someone with the fumes."
"Oh, I loved My Side," Suzie said, "It had always bugged me that the Lost Boys never got a fair say."
"Wait, isn't he a hero? He talks like you guys almost worshiped him…"
"It's complicated," Skeeter said, "I served on a ship with one of the Lost Boys once, Stephen the Line. It was hard to not be in awe of him. Hard to remember that behind the deeds was a man just trying to serve like me."
"Oh…"
"Were you discussing more about Corvian Home in the classes?" Ivan asked before the silence could turn cold.
"Oh, sure, lots. Like on this one island there's a big festival where they celebrate the harvest of these huge nuts, and then there's this island where they have 'Imitation plays,' where Corvians try to mimic exactly how the plays sound from other races. Tutor Brixvee showed us a video of one they coppied from the Star Sailors, and it was pretty cool."
"Do you figure she had lessons on Corvian Home since she knew we were headed here?"
"Of course," Kip said with a bitter scowl, "she's full of dirty tricks like that." His hosts couldn't contain their mirth, not that they tried all that hard.
Later that day, the intrepid travelers were in the throes of a local festival. They had surmised that it was probably related to local folklore, as various icons and masks were featured heavily, but the press was so active and exuberant, that not even the Terran implants could keep up, slaved as they were to the Terran compads with better translation matrixes than even the local networks. Therefore, three out of the four friends found themselves swept up in a feathered fury of dance and rough song, to their ears anyway, while the only clue to Ivan's immense pleasure at the experience was his swiftly wagging tail. Which the locals had no idea was the unconcealable tell that his exterior coolness was in fact, a complete sham.
The festivities seemed to show no sign of abating as night fell over the city sheltered in a rough and rocky crown from the storms of the sea, so in order to get a good night's sleep they were obliged to catch a local shuttle ride between islands to find a slightly less festive town to bed down in, and Suzie took the opportunity.
"So I hear Y'all's planet name isn't what anybody calls it," she said impishly to the shuttle pilot.
"INDEED, ahem, indeed. We know that you mammal-peoples, and the reptile-peoples, and the water-peoples, cannot do it."
"Come on, give us an example," Suzie said in that challenging, teasing way that made Skeeter both cringe and love her.
The pilot laughed, or at least Skeeter thought he, or maybe she? At least Skeeter thought that the pilot laughed, whichever sex they were. He had a hard time with regular Terran corvids, let alone these giant bird people that reminded him of the former. Then said piolet of undetermined sex made a weird clicking noise in the depths of the throat and said, "That is the name."
"I can see why y'all think folk can't do that. Hey Skeeter, why don't ya give it a shot?"
"No," he said flatly.
"Aw come on, it's their planet's name, you should at least try," she said with that wry smile she had that made promises. Promises that he had a very difficult time resisting for… reasons.
He then made a right proper fool of himself trying to replicate the sound by clicking his tongue in various ways before giving up and just saying, "I'm stickin' with Corvian Home."
After making a right proper fool of himself, the other passengers obliged to laugh at him, and Suzie turned on Kip saying, "Your turn."
Kip shot her a sullen look.
"Aw, c'mon, you gonna let these folk just laugh at Skeeter all by his lonesome?" she chided.
Kip downright pouted at her.
"Coooome oooooon," she taunted.
Realizing that she wouldn't quit unless he gave in, Kip also made a mockery of himself trying to replicate the throat clicking sound to the delight of all and sundry. "Shut up," he mumbled as he laid his ears back.
"Ivan?" she asked of her final victim.
He clicked his tongue once, and when Suzie gave him a pout he said, "That is as much as I am trying."
"Now you try," Kip shot at her.
"I know my limits, unlike you boys," she laughed to Kip's indignant sputtering.
Meanwhile, Jerry was having a less festive time. Instead of happening to land on an island that happened to be hosting a festival for one reason or another, he had purposely chosen the center of finance for his outing. He'd had a relatively uneventful series of meetings with financiers, entrepreneurs, and shipping guild heads, and various other parties interested in securing access to new markets for their various trades. It was all very productive, and very boring, and not for the first time he felt a stab of regret for the last time that he had interacted with Skeeter.
Even still, it was a satisfying day. There was a lot of troubling mentions of debts though. Jerry was no stranger to the lending industries of various planets of the CIP, and even had some Republican contacts in that realm, those who could stand his needling of the Republic's systems, but nobody he knew ever said anything about "debt masters" or "clan debt." Troubling indeed, but he chalked it up to clunky translation. Even CIP systems could have trouble with new languages, and he just knew that Republican datapads were inferior. They had to be, of course.
Still though, there was something about the references that bothered him. Something furtive behind the eyes of the avian people who spoke of either concept. Then, there was the fact that only those who were obviously startup businesspeople would speak about them, never the financers. Very troubling indeed. He resolved himself to investigate the matter if he could make the time the next day.
The following morning, the intrepid travelers went on the only "heavyworlder safe" zipline tours available on the planet, which just so happened to be in the heavily forested canyons and followed paths through the foliage designed to simulate danger. Skeeter and Kip found it thrilling, but Suzie found it merely pleasant while Ivan was actually bored by the thrilling experience. The man was pleased with getting a shot of kip chanting breathlessly, "Let's go again, let's go again, let's go again, let's go again!" Wile Suzie was more pleased to have sneakily captured a shot of Ivan's unamused expression as he sped along on the pullies.
"Sure, why not?" Suzie had said to Kip.
To which Ivan said, "Because is boring."
"What?!" Kip nearly shouted.
"You take ride in boarding torpedo, and you will be understanding then."
"The real answer to why not is I already booked a nature walk. There's this island where there's like this bowl formation full of flowers. It looks amazin'" Skeeter explained to Kip's dismay.
Meanwhile, Jerry was exhausted. He'd reshuffled the meetings so that he had mere moments between them to prepare, but he was good at his job, so long as his counterpart wasn't a Republican, and could get the proper contact details to the correct people for whatever the other party hoped to accomplish, so long as it was legal, and it all was. It was therefore by mighty effort alone that he had a scant two hours in which to seek out the information he sought before he would have to retire to sleep, or else be completely useless the next day.
He took snagged a gravcar and told the cabbie, "Take me to where you and the lads go for a spot of drink, or whatever the legal intoxicant is around here."
The cabbie gave him a one eyed beady stare and said, "Are you sure, mammal-people? The places we go are not the high class places, by the storms."
"I'm sure, I'm sure. I might not look it these days, but I came up from w working family. My dah still makes fun that I lost my calluses."
The cabbie blinked twice and raised his crest. Jerry had no idea whether that was a good sign or not, but the blue plumed cabbie lowered his crest and blinked again saying, "Sure, mammal-people. I will take you there, but do not cause the fights or my clan will have share of the debt."
Jerry thought about pressing the issue, but something about how the cabbie's feathers had puffed out and still weren't lying flat convinced him that social lubricant was the needed thing. "What is the preferred intoxicant?" he asked.
"We smoke an herb. It usually does not work for mammal-peoples, so you might not have the fun you look for."
"I see, we also have some intoxicants taken this way, do you draw the smoke through water first?"
"Yes, do you mammal-peoples do this too?"
"It's called hookah, and has a long tradition in several of our cultures. Or bongs, which have a somewhat younger tradition, as history is measured."
"Maybe then you will get the happy haze and no fights will be started, mammal-people."
"Maybe, maybe. I'm just after a good banter, and the banker types are too stuffy."
"You are right, you are right, debt masters do not laugh when you joke, they charge you more interest!" the cabbie laughed, and Jerry fell silent.
At the, well, Jerry would call it a hookah lounge, Jerry found that the lads about avoided him and shot him suspicious glances, and also found that apart from a relaxed feeling in his limbs, the smoke had no effect on him. It was a pleasant feeling, and he could maintain it by taking a draw from the hookah every two minutes or so. It seemed that was a prodigious rate of smoking though, for eventually the suspicious glances turned to those of curiosity or even grudging respect. Jerry surmised that despite his rather drab coloring, they knew an expensive suit when they saw one.
Eventually, a clearly intoxicated Corvain stumbled over to his table and sank down on one of the cushions, "Why do you smoke so well, mammal-thing-people?" he slurred.
"I am used to a much stronger herb, and this makes me simply feel good. Does it not feel good for you?"
"'Course it do. Can't smoke as much."
"Wondering anything else?"
"You a Sneaky?"
Jerry thought about correcting the error, but another glance at the state of his conversation partner dispelled the notion, so he said, "Yes, but I am not very stealthy."
"It's just what people call you… dunno why…"
"I'm not botherd, I know the reason and it's funny."
"Funny?"
"Yes, do you know it?"
"Ish a meme."
"The first one of us that the Star Sailors met was mistaken for a pet, and they named him Sneaky."
That, as planned, brought forth uproarious laughter from the intoxicated Corvian who confided, "That's the kinda thing people-things get bristly about."
"I know, people-things get brislty about all sorts of things. Like the bankers, they won't tell me what debt masters are."
"They own clan debts."
"Clan debts?"
"You know, the debts you clan has, from like way back."
"Do you mean to say you were born in debt?"
"Sssssure, isn't everybody? Well, not rich people-things I guess, but ever-peoples I knowed."
"And these debt masters, they merely collect the interest?"
"Mostly."
"Mostly?"
"If you're not… if the job doesn't pay… erm… they so like tell you to do stuff."
"Involuntary servitude," Jerry said coldly.
"Yeah, that. The hatchlings get that rough."
"Explain please," Jerry said with cold intensity.
It seemed that the intensity of Jerry's gaze or maybe the soft quality of a hammer that his voice emulated, gave the Corvian some degree of sobriety as he stammered, "Yes-yes. The erm, the uh or-or-orphanages. The hatchlings there have no parents to provide for them, so the debt masters have them do something useful."
Jerry was very close to becoming a very dangerous man as he asked, "Are the debts of these children for sale?"
"Y-y-y-y-y-yes?"
"Where does one go to buy debts?"

2023.06.03 00:44 BoredGamer101 Sagrada (2017) A Math-Puzzle Made Out Of Stained Glass - Review

Sagrada (2017) A Math-Puzzle Made Out Of Stained Glass - Review
Sagrada is one of those games that, from the outside, appears to be something else than when it is on the inside. Sagrada appears to be this beautiful game where you are constructing stained glass windows and whoever constructs the most beautiful window. It seems to be a game based around art where emotion and feeling lead the way, and the correct answer is subjective. Sagrada is not an art game, however. Sagrada is 100% a math game.
Sagrada
Sagrada essentially plays as Sudoku, where you need to play certain numbers to build your stained-glass window and are restricted by the numbers that are also around it. There is also a color element that also creates a limitation on possibilities. Players draft die and place those die on their player board according to these restrictions. All players are working towards the same scoring goals, with each player having a certain color that will be more beneficial towards them. The game is about maximizing each die and placing it in the perfect spot. One mistake can completely ruin a column and a row when it comes to scoring and may very well be the difference between winning and losing.
It is this blend of art and math that I believe makes Sagrada so enjoyable. It is pleasing to the eye and to the touch, but it is also pleasing to the mind. Fulfilling the scoring conditions has a huge dopamine effect, while discovering a fatal error halfway through a game (happens to me every time) brings it all crashing down. By the time the final round has passed, it really does look like you have created a stained glass portrait, and much like a real stained glass window, on closer inspection you can see how perfectly all the pieces fit together.
Sagrada
Sagrada has interesting mechanics baked into it, to help it stand out. The way the drafting of the die goes, when it gets to the last player the order reverses and everyone picks again. It is beneficial then to be the last player to go, as you get to pick two dice at a time. The other players have to hope that the one perfect die they need is not taken away from them by someone else. When you choose your starting base card, you get to select the difficulty of your window. Players are rewarded for going the harder route. While it may seem simpler to construct a window using only two of the colors, you quickly discover this limits your options on placement. Finally, the addition of tool cards allow the players to have limited control over the game; not having to always rely on the roll of the dice.
Sagrada could benefit from having more scoring cards included. After playing 4-5 times, you will see almost all the different ways that you can earn points. Many of the options are just inverses of each other. In one round, 5’s and 6’s score, and in another it is 3’s and 4’s. The same goes with the tool cards, more options would really benefit the replay ability of this game. What Sagrada could benefit the most from is a thematic dice towetray included in the game (there are options available on Etsy for those who are interested). Some structures, preferably cathedral shaped, would enhance the theme of this game, but also help with organization. Rolling 5-8 dice at a time can quickly become a game of cat and mouse as everyone is swooping under the table to collect wayward dice. I personally have had a few games ruined by the accidental bump of the arm on my game board, spilling all my die. Good luck putting them back in their correct positions and with their correct values.
Sagrada
Overall, Sagrada is a good game. It is very pleasing to the eyes while also giving you the same feeling as completing a Sudoku puzzle. I do believe that players will move on from this one quickly, but it will stay in collections for a long time. A very simple math game that will make you feel like Einstein and Michelangelo, all at once.

2023.06.02 23:57 Rads324 Fox & Oden straight bourbon Batch 7 Review

Fox & Oden straight bourbon Batch 7 Review
WHISKEY - Fox and Oden straight bourbon whiskey batch 7
DISTILLERY - Fox and Oden, distilled at Ross and Squib/MGP
99 proof, $92+tax for a 750 ml bottle. After digging online for a while I found this is 9-14 year MGP, unknown mashbill/s. Sampled 2 ounces neat in a glencairn after a 25 minute rest
N - Rich toffee and raspberry, baking spices, wood, orange peel, a hint of leather. Ethanol is present but well in check.
P - Very bright fruitiness, raspberry, pear, orange zest, lemon, some raisin, black pepper, caramello, earthy oak, vanilla.
M/F - lighter side of medium bodied to start, finishing a touch thin. Creamy as heck. The ethanol is stronger on the finish, finishing with lingering orange creamsicle, black pepper, tannic oak, slightly bitter orange zest and heavy vanilla.
This bottle randomly popped up at a lot of stores in the Denver area a few months ago and with how little there is online about it it’s still sitting on many shelves. I was intrigued and I knew it was mgp distillate, so I took a shot.
This one is interesting. It’s got a lot of nice classic bourbon flavors to go along with some very heavy fruitiness on the palate and then it transitions to showing it’s age with some bitterness and tannic oak on the back end. It’s so damn fruity it’s kind of crazy. The beginning is very different from the end and I feel like it could be a blend of low and high rye mashbills. While the ethanol is stronger than expected for a sub 100 proof bourbon, it’s still in check pretty well. The balance on this is very good, transitioning flavors and mouthfeel with ease. The mix of creamy fruitiness and tannic oak really gives you everything you want in one sip. I feel like it may be too tannic for some who don’t like higher ages, but if you’re a fan of Elijah Craig 18, fruity low proof 4Rosesbp or the 9 and 10 year Redemptions I think this is well worth it for roughly the same price as those redemptions. It’s got a much nicer bottle than those redemptions too since you can actually pour it, with a longer neck, heavy glass, and heavy cork topper. It feels fancy and looks nice for what it’s worth. This bottle has opened up really nicely in the 3 months it’s been open as well.
Would I buy this again? Maybe, but I’m not rushing out to buy a back up. Although I looked and can’t find a more enjoyable bourbon under 100 proof on my shelf now that lot b is finished. If you like older mgp and fruity bourbons, this is probably right up your alley.
RATING - 7.5/10, maybe 8 on certain days
Thanks for reading! Cheers!
T8ke Scale:
1 Disgusting So bad I poured it out.
2 Poor I wouldn’t consume by choice.
3 Bad Multiple flaws.
4 Sub-par Not bad, but many things I’d rather have.
5 Good Good, just fine.
6 Very Good A cut above.
7 Great Well above average.
8 Excellent Really quite exceptional.
9 Incredible An all-time favorite.
10 Perfect Perfect.

2023.06.02 21:58 potatovillian333 AITA for getting my bf a birthday present?

This is a throwaway account.
I (24f) and my bf (25m) have been dating for around 8 months so not super long.
His birthday was in April. Before his birthday on one of our earlier dates we were talking about our favorite holidays, foods, etc. and the topic of birthdays came up and he mentioned that he doesn’t really celebrate his; he orders himself a nice a meal and usually watches a movie and has a glass of his favorite whiskey. Said he doesn’t really do gifts; his family usually just calls him to say happy birthday and that’s it.
That was the last time the topic was brought up.
When his birthday was getting closer, I wanted to do something for him but I tried to make sure it was super low-key and nothing over the top since he told me birthdays weren’t really his thing.
We weren’t able to see each other on his actual birthday but I saw him the weekend after and I told him I got him a present for his birthday but it wasn’t something crazy and just one gift.
He mentioned once that he would really like to have the anime Cowboy Bebop box set one day (it’s his favorite) so I managed to find it on Amazon and ordered it for him.
When I showed it to him he seemed really happy and thanked me and said that he wanted to watch it with me as I’ve never seen it.
I didn’t think I was an asshole until we finally sat down to watch it a couple weeks ago and his roommate made a comment about how I didn’t respect his boundaries about gifts and just completely bulldozed his thoughts on the matter.
I didn’t think I was over stepping but now I’m worried I might have.
AITA for getting him a gift?

2023.06.02 20:54 Mista9000 Perfectly Safe Demons -Ch 13- Kidnappers hate this one weird trick!

[Chapter One]
Prev and Next

Late at night, in the back of a warehouse.
Grigory squirmed against his restraints. The rope binding his hands was coarse and too tight, causing his hands to lose feeling. A bored council guard stood nearby, but was mostly ignoring him. He wasn’t going to get far with his hands and feet tied together. It was worse than he had thought possible. They are very much going to kill him tonight. This was even worse than either Stanisk or Aethlina had speculated, and he just knew that they would use his role in this disaster against him in future disagreements. However, he might be overly optimistic worrying about a future that might not include him.
Grigory thought over what he had left in his notebooks, contemplating if it would be enough for someone to continue his work. He wasn't sure. It was a lot more than he started with, but there weren't a lot of qualified scholars looking to follow his footsteps. The best outcomes for a lot of different paths all need him to survive.
Grigory tried not to be distracted by the ropes digging into him, and frantically wracked his mind for any sort of escape plan. He had a single imp totem on him, and they left him with his satchel nearby. That’s something. He would need to be untied to invoke it, and a single perfectly safe imp wouldn’t change the balance of power much. Perhaps if everyone but the four executive members left, he and Stanisk might have a chance to overpower them. Well he could at least be distracting while Stanisk overpowered them. They also hadn’t checked his satchel yet, so maybe he could bribe them with the ten thousand glindi engraved gold bar he brought to pledge his support? Bribes are a type of negotiation, and being tied up while they already had the gold put him in a frustratingly weak position to start negotiations. Not getting executed by the organised crime successor to the Council of Demonologists wasn’t on his list, but he still felt it was important.
Grigory could clearly see and hear the meeting continue in the centre of the warehouse. A small detail that he noticed was just how small the sums were. Robberies of a few hundred glindi? The value of a business protection racket being ten glucks a week? Had the runaway success of his imp-made goods distorted his value of money? Pandemonium Partners profited a few hundred thousand a month, and the big safe in the workshop’s basement held about a million glindi, mostly in heavy gold bars. That was after the expenses, taxes and salaries had been paid. Maybe bribes will work here.
Another trend that emerged was how cheap lives appeared to be. Stole a knife from the boss? Death. Miscounted the take? Death. Didn’t show up to the job? Finger loss. How they attracted or retained any talent at all was its own mystery. On that note, we wonder if he enormously overpaid his people? These goons were killing each other over sums of money close to what he paid each of his security goons a day, which in turn was a fraction of what he was paying his partners. All the people he hired seemed excited when he told them the starting salary, and not a single one asked for a raise. Not the time for that! Focus on the matter at hand! Grigory continued to look for anything that he could use to escape.
All too soon the business part of the meeting was concluded. Two of the Council's guards wheeled out a cask of beer, and a crate of cheap clay mugs. Not great news for plans that require being left alone. In singles and groups the ‘Demonologists’ started to come over to where he was tied up. To drink cheap beer and look upon true evil in his demon summoning face.
“Hullo gentlemen! This is all a silly mistake, I’m sure we can work something out,” Grigory said with a calmness and pleasantness he didn’t feel.
A gangster in a threadbare tunic and patched leather pants started going through his coat, and then his satchel. His notebooks with neatly written titles were thrown on the floor, and the minor spell reagents placed on top of a nearby crate.
“Holy shit!” he exclaimed far too loudly, ensuring everyone saw him pull out the slim gold bar, about the size of a knife handle. “This can’t be real?!” The gangster saw how everyone near him stared, mouths agape at the bar in his open hand. The bar’s engraving of the Royal Mint of Hiruxia glinting in the flickering rushlight.
“Back off! I found it!” He held the gold tight in his fist and drew his dirty, nicked knife from his belt with his free hand. Quicker than a blink of an eye every member had their blades out and the men at arms from the edges moved towards the commotion.
“PUT IT AWAY!” boomed Arcanist Devorio. He reasserted control of the situation with palpable menace. “The prisoner and all his goods are the property of the Council! Put it down on the table, Tricky Tupo!”
The gangsters grudgingly resheathed their weapons, and Tricky Tupo passed the bar to the Arcanist without making eye contact.
“Holy shit, it is actually real gold!” Devorio muttered after inspecting it for a second. “Where the hell did you steal something like this?”
Something in his phrasing crystalized a plan in Grigory’s mind. An insane, reckless, dangerous plan. Grigory tried not to smile when he replied, “Not stolen at all, well not from our plane of reality.”
“You summoned it?” the well dressed head of the council asked incredulously.
“Oh no, not at all! I stole it from the treasury of Hell! You see that’s the point of having a perfectly obedient demon, it does what I say, and not what the Lords of Hell say,” Grigory lied. The Hellplane wasn’t organised like that at all. There was no such thing as a treasury there. He still wasn’t sure how to sell it, but he hoped there was enough ignorance and greed in the room to do the heavy lifting for him.
“Demonologists have never stolen from hell! As far as I know. I think?” The arcanist was in uncertain territory.
“Mostly true! But we steal minor things all the time, like magical energy, or arcane secrets, but the exciting advance I wrote to you about was stealing things like minerals or artefacts and sometimes regular boring gold.” Grigory was hoping he was priming their greed enough. He worried he was being too subtle.
“Well, it looks like you have a new job! You steal Hell gold for us now!” The Arcanist-turned-crime-lord was back in familiar territory of coercing people into giving him what he wanted.
“Oh I couldn’t!" Grigory feigned reluctance. “I don’t have the right equipment, I haven’t done the full balancing equations for today’s planar alignments! I should go home and get what I need, and I’ll be happy to come back tomorrow and we can get a fresh start on this.”
“Not a chance! You’re doing the ritual this instant, or your blood will cover this entire floor!” Davenio countered.
Grigory, aware that excess blood could damage goods, decided against arguing. “Alright, you win, I’ll have my imp steal another dozen gold bars tonight, I guess. But that’s it! I’m leaving after that!”
“Hah! We’ll see about that!” The arcanist cut Grigory’s bonds while staring straight into his eyes.
Grigory rubbed his sore wrists, and looked at the fifty or so people that had gathered around him. Cruel smiles and the stink of cheap beer surrounded him, but he had a plan. “First I’ll need to summon my imp, to help me set up the ritual!” Grigory found himself speaking like a showman at a fair, with exaggerated gestures and in a loud clear voice. The assembled thugs, goons and crime lords backed up to give him some space. Aethlina suggested obscuring the details of invoking a demon, which was a great idea. He slowly and rhythmically chanted in demonic detail how he likes his tea, with lots of hand gestures and steps and ritualistic looking movements. After a few long seconds he pulled out the imp totem from his vest, waved it around like a wand for a bit before doing the quick gesture of invocation to actually invoke the imp. With two small clicks the tiny imp landed on the rough floorboards of the warehouse. Several goons gasped, and one of the lady goons even shrieked a bit. Truly a sad state of affairs when someone calling themselves a demonologist is startled by a tiny perfectly safe imp!
Grigory picked up his notebooks from the floor, and found the one titled ‘Charts, Formulas, and Tables.’. Doing some mental maths, and modifying a few old spells and rituals on the fly, Grigory gave his imp simple directions in demonic. He could have just spoken plainly, but he was aware he was also putting on a show. Keeping everyone’s attention was important for the next part.
“Ahem, is there any furnace ash, or the like? I’ll need to create a circle in ash or wax or sand.” A few people turned to look for what he needed, and Grigory returned to working out the planar alignment in his notebook. They returned with a canvas bag of stove ashes, he looked them over and nodded. “Does anyone have a silvered steel blade I can use? Anyone at all? No matter, I have one!” Grigory pulled out the small pocket knife he used to cut his food with. It actually was silvered steel, since that also came up from time to time in his line of work. Besides it was interesting to learn that was the only silvered steel blade in the room.
Grigory passed the bag of ash to the imp. He gave detailed instructions on the shape, symbols, and spacing of the elements, all crucial to the huge circle taking shape in the middle of the warehouse floor. The assembled crowd of dirty, dangerous, and desperate deviants started to look concerned. What had started as a bit of mean spirited fun was fast turning into the exact thing they knew was evil incarnate. A path to Hell was being built in front of them! A few moved to leave, but the others called them names and threatened their reputations, forcing them to stay and watch. There was a good reason to stay, there was about to be a lot of gold for everyone. In theory.
At last the preparations were complete. Grigory slowly walked the entire outside of his circle to make sure it was unbroken. He had done similar rituals before, but always with hours of double checking, and never with an audience. His hands were sweaty and shaking as he tore a page out of his notebook. Quickly, he scribbled down a final set of instructions in demonic script and handed it to the imp.
“Merp!” it said in agreement.
Grigory turned to address everyone. He saw a very worried Stanisk standing off to the back, and he subtly gestured for him to wait. Steadying his nerves for a second he addressed his gathered kidnappers, “Soon you will see a small tear in reality! Plug your ears, lest the screams of the damned drive you mad!” Grigory looked around, to make sure everyone was properly alarmed, and activated the ritual.
With a crack of thunder and a hurricane blast of dry wind that reeked of hot iron and sulphur Grigory’s surprise appeared in the centre of the circle. A towering rage demon, its black armoured hide covered in dancing hellfire, its wolf-like face filled with jagged fangs, and its shoulders brushing the rafters of the old warehouse. The assembled criminals looked up from the floor and saw the bipedal nightmare towering over them. They stood stalk still, not knowing how to react, nor sure what exactly was happening.
Grigory stood up straight and turned on the crowd, in a commanding bellow he condemned them, “What kind of idiots let a master demonologist do any summoning ritual he wants?! Look upon the true power of hell and despair!! Your petty schemes are –”
Grigory’s gloating was cut short by a foundation shaking roar from the demon. It started grabbing people at random, and biting them in half, throwing hunks of torso against the wall with splattering force. In accordance with the note, Grigory’s imp hopped up on the table, grabbed the bar of gold from where Arcanist Devorio put it, and sprinted figure eights between the demon's legs. With everyone’s fear AND greed now focused in the same area, Grigory took his stuff and ran for the door. Most of the so-called ‘demonologists’ were trying to escape, but a few were focused on the imp running with a gold bar held over its head. That was as much as a labourer would make in a year, and they couldn’t just walk away from that. The massive demon continued to kill and dismember with glee. The sound of tearing meat and snapping bones was even louder than the screams of the dying. As far as distractions go, Grigory was pretty proud of this one.
Grigory started for the door they had entered by. However, it was jammed with people trying to escape. He stopped at the edge of the chaos, trying to gather his thoughts. As he did, a better solution appeared to him. The demon grabbed one of the cutthroats that dove at the imp’s gold, and threw him at the wall with enough force to vaporise him. The impact filled the whole side of the warehouse in a steamy red mist, and sprayed meaty chunks over everything. The demon howled with laughter when he saw how people popped when thrown into walls.
The important part for Grigory was that there was now a second exit. An exit covered in gore and bone fragments, but entirely clear of goons. Signalling Stanisk, he made his way out through the wreckage. Slower than he’d like, and getting blood and worse on everything, but a clear path. The demon had stopped feeding entirely and was just throwing people as hard as he could, first at the floor then at other people. Its roars of rage were now peals of terrifying laughter. The air in the warehouse was thick with a mist of blood from the high energy impacts.
“I assume it knows not to kill us?” Stanisk asked in a ragged voice once he caught up to Grigory.
“Yes, but only not to kill people in purple. So don’t take off your tabard! It was the best I could do!”
They struggled out into the cool night air of the yard, free of the stenches of hell, gore and terror.
Stanisk looked down at his tabard, so soaked in fresh blood that it looked black. He ran even faster to the wagon.
“So this thing is just going to destroy the city until someone slays it then?” Stanisk asked, as they ran to the cart while frantically gesturing for his two guards to turn the wagon around and get it rolling.
“Oh no! Just until midnight” Grigory explained after he dove into the moving wagon. He wiped his blood soaked hands on his blood soaked robes, to no benefit.
Stanisk stared backwards at the destruction unfolding behind them. The demon had brought the warehouse down around himself and was clearly visible from the road. It was still energetically killing and smashing. “That's more than an hour! You reckon it’ll come for us?”
The single horse dragging a cargo wagon with four men on it was maddeningly sluggish
Grigory fumbled around for something to get the blood and bone fragments off his glasses. Finally finding part of his undershirt clean, he wiped them and he replied,“Oh my no,It’s bound to the summoning circle. Within a hundred paces.” They both watched as a few people fled on horseback, and a wagon rattled away at a gallop. Mostly it was a mess of shouting and terror. Knife fights broke out as people tried to commandeer the remaining horses. Horses were panicking and bolting without riders. Some survivors just ran away on foot. With every fresh kill the demon laughed so loud that Grigory felt like it was coming from his own skull.
“What the hell happened in there, sirs?” asked the terrified guard driving the cart.
Grigory turned around to answer, but Stanisk put a hand on his arm and answered instead, “Those filthy witches in there tried to kill us with a demon, but Grigory outsmarted them and turned it on its creators. Keep driving Kedril, we should be safe in an intersection or so.”
“Light preserve us all!” Kedril the driver said. “Is that a real demon Sir?”
Grigory watched the demon grab one of the goons fighting in the yard and threw him in a high arc towards the city centre. The demon’s arm cracked like a whip as it threw. The ragged corpse left a trail of blood mist as it arced far overhead.
Grigory answered calmly, “Yes.”
Grigory pulled out his demon totem from his robes, and devoked the imp, causing a gold bar a block and a half behind them to clatter to the blood soaked warehouse floor and slide into some debris. He was surprised how calm he felt. By all accounts his plan was in shambles and he’d stirred up a dozen hornets nests. Facing certain death and prevailing did wonders for one’s perspective.
Grigory looked over at Stanisk, and he was looking less calm. Which was entirely fair. A lot of uniquely horrific things happened tonight. Stanisk’s mouth was a tight line, face pale and eyes bloodshot. That might have just been blood from before, that got in his eyes.
“We can’t go through town looking like we bathed in the blood of the innocent, take us to the Golden Anchor’s warehouse on Glibstone Street. We own that place, we can clean up and change there,” Stanisk tersely told the driver.
Grigory countered, “First off, the previous owners of this blood were far from innocent, and secondly that’s across town, let's just lay in the bed, throw the rainsheet over us, and go to the main workshop.”
Stanisk groaned and tried to rub the blood off his face while he thought it over, but just smeared it around.
“Fine, Kedril, Remember to do a few triple left turns to make sure we aren’t being followed, like we discussed last month.” Stanisk undid the oilcloth on the side, connected it to the mounting points, and slid underneath.
“I think we need to review our plans!” Grigory whispered.
“Shhhh, cargo don’t talk.” Stanisk whispered back. The soldier cupped his head in one hand, and covered his eyes with the other and tried to get comfortable enough to sleep. Grigory rolled onto his back and stared at the cloth in front of his face. He tried not to dwell on the odd whip crack sound coming from behind them, nor the horrified gasps of the two guards on the driver’s bench while he mentally updated his plans.
****
A few hours later Grigory was bathed, wearing fresh clothes and feeling much better. He sat contemplating at the kitchen table in his workshop. He was troubled by what this was going to mean for his business and for himself. Stanisk was still in the tub cleaning up, and the two guards had been dismissed for the night. It was shortly after midnight now, and that meant more to Grigory than it did other nights. He hoped no one innocent died tonight, but he was also a little surprised how little he was bothered by the destruction he unleashed this evening. Considering it was the first time he took another human’s life, albeit indirectly, he expected a stronger emotional response. Part of this was a clear case of kill or be killed. Another part was these people were awful people. Grigory worried this might mean he had more subconscious bias against the value of the lives of the economically disadvantaged, but that’s probably not it. Being biassed against people that were willing to kill him made more sense, but also he knew the coming years mean that will become the same as willing to kill most of the world.
Grigory put on some fresh tea, and set out another cup for Stanisk when he was done washing. He couldn’t shake the feeling that his worst fear, being mad with power and using that power to violently kill everyone he perceived as an enemy, wasn’t as far-fetched as it was before. These were the goons that might have killed his mentor, Archmage Willoford. Avenging a mentor was a reasonable rationale, at least in songs and plays. Grigory knew that wasn’t his motivation tonight. And besides that was the inquisition from the sounds of it, these ones just celebrated his mentor's execution, which isn’t really moral grounds for demonic dismemberment. He also knew he could have summoned a stench demon or a screaming demon, or just non demon based rituals he could have used to escape without violence. He didn’t even offer to bribe them, just straight to violence. Grigory wasn’t sure he liked finding out who he really was when lives were on the line.
His introspection was interrupted by a sound coming from his workshop door, and he sagged with relief when he saw it was just Aethlina. Relief that was short lived, because the questions started immediately.
“I assume you had something to do with the demonic giant that threw seventeen people into the side of the Cathedral of the Light?” the elv asked, without reproach or scorn.
Grigory took a second to answer. “I had something to do with the presence of that demon in our plane of reality. I had a little to do with either the people it chose to throw. Nothing to do with where it chose to throw them nor its accuracy. Interesting it threw them at the Cathedral, you’d think it would have some kinship with the church? They both love burning people.”
“By all accounts the accuracy at least, was excellent. All the bodies hit Cathedral Square. The Cathedral itself requires extensive repairs to the nave, and two flying buttresses collapsed. At least according to the terrified lady I ran into.” Aethlina paused for a few seconds in case Grigory chose to share more details.
Aethlina asked mildly, “How rude of me. I meant to ask, how did your meeting go tonight?”
Stanisk came out from around the partition wearing fresh clothes. “The fucking witches weren’t even witches! They were just shadow blighted gangsters what stole the demonologists reputation! Broke as shit, and twice as dumb!”
Stanisk grabbed a bottle of whiskey off the shelf and sat down at the table, ignoring the cup and the pot of tea. After drinking right from the bottle he continued, “It hit the actual main Cathedral? The one right in the centre of town? That’s like an hour walk from where we were! A catapult wouldn’t have thrown a person half that far!”
“The one and the same, The Grand Ubrafadter’s residence is in that square, so I assume what follows will be the sort of witch hunt the city has never seen before.” Aethlina turned to Grigory, “May I also assume your reasons for staying in the city are weaker and your reasons for leaving are stronger than they were yesterday?“
“There were definitely survivors, and I was introduced by name. I can’t stay here, probably not in the empire at all. I don’t think they know the name of the company, but Stanisk and I were wearing the company’s sigil, so it might not be long for them to work it out.” Grigory rubbed the bridge of his nose without taking off his glasses. “I guess we should start planning our exit immediately.”
In a rare show of emotion Aethlina smiled for a second, “We are leaving on a ship named the Widow’s Remorse, it’s provisioned for us and departs on the morning tide, in about nine hours. The captain agreed to wait until we were in open water to hear our destination. He and his crew also suffer from a rare medical condition where their memory fades entirely anytime they are given a bag of money. The ship can carry thirty-five passengers, so the guards can bring their families. I’ll describe the places I think we should go, after we are in open waters.”
Grigory was both very impressed and a touch alarmed. “Did you know what would happen at that meeting? Did you know what I was walking into?”
“No, I had mistakenly assumed you were on top of that, and took you on your word about them. The odds of them being what you expected were poor. I also had a detailed plan in case they kidnapped you.”
Stanisk burst out laughing, “Imagine if they kidnapped you, Boss! All trussed up like a rotisserie chicken! Hah! I guess I’ll get packed and meet back here to get everything organised! I’ll miss my townhouse, but I’ve had enough of living in Jagged Cove, it's loud and crowded.”
Stanisk stood up, and turned to leave, but paused mid stride. “Miss Aethlina, how big of an investigation do you reckon it’ll be? Reckon they could keep after us after we leave?”
“Likely. There are cases where the inquisition spent entire centuries on the trail of heretics and their descendents. Those heresies were vocally opposing an aspect of doctrine. This may be the first heresy in which a building-sized demon flung citizens into Cathedral Square. I assume yes, they will be interested in following up.”
“Alright, I’ve got an idea that might buy us some time. Grigory, are there any specific numbers that are significant to demons?”
“Um, not actually, but the older texts are filled with references to threes and eights I guess?” Grigory said with a shrug.
“Perfect!” Stanisks' smile strengthened and he turned to Aethlina. “Can you think of eight nobles, eight businessmen, and eight clergy the city would be better off without? Here, write 'em on this!” He slid her a notebook page when she nodded.
Grigory leaned forward,”I’m not sure what you are going for?”
“In the army, there was a famously clever bird that would trick soldiers, called a red heron. We are going to make a whole flock of ‘em!” Stanisk excitedly explained. “Oh, draw a demon circle on this page, doesn’t have to work or anything, like the one from the warehouse”
Grigory began his sketch. “I don’t think red heron is quite right, but I’m catching your drift.”
While they wrote, Stanisk went to the carved chest where all the imp totems for the workshop were stored, and invoked twenty four of them. Taking Aethlina’s list and Grigory’s sketch, he ordered each imp to sprint across town and use hellfire to scorch the circle into the street in front of the home of a specific name.
After the final imp bounded out of the building and was leaping along the rooflines Stanisk returned to his partners. “Now they’ll have too many leads! Hopefully folk see the imps and hellfire, that’ll be even better!”
“We can just outvoke them in an hour or so, that's easy enough. Great idea, Stanisk!” Grigory said cautiously, still thinking through the plan.
“If your big demon didn’t cause a public panic, I can’t imagine a better way to finish the job.” Aethlina replied.
Stanisk smiled and shrugged. “It wasn’t my good looks alone that kept me alive this long! I’ll send some runners to gather the lads and get this show on the road. Human runners I mean!”

Became a Colorado resident today so I celebrated with a Colorado Gold Rush using only Colorado ingredients.
Here’s the specs: 4/5th oz Colorado lemons lemon juice, 4/5th oz 3 to 1 Colorado honey honey syrup, 2 oz of Laws Colorado 4 grain bottled in bond 8yr bourbon whiskey, Shake and open pour into an Old fashioned glass. I used a little more than the 3/4 oz called for because of the 100 proof bourbon and it turned out perfect! Happy to be here in my new home. Also thanks to Jim Meehan for showing me this recipe and writing a great book!

2023.06.02 20:19 Amy_cottonballs Is it okay for me to be mad and say no?

I’m (24F) a singer. I sing at hotel bars, mall stages, restaurants and private parties in a touristic island. I grew up here and started singing professionally like this at 15. This isn’t end game for me. My parents were both in this industry and now they’re old and have no pension and are struggling to make ends meet. I understand this job is temporary for me. I actually want to study to be a sound engineer.
The problem is at this new hotel I’ve been singing at for 2 days a week these past 3 months. The owner of the hotel showed up last Wednesday and it’s been low season lately so everywhere is basically empty with 2 tables max. This day was no different, it was 2 tables and his table of 4 people. The other two tables left and the owner stood up, came up to me and told me “sing Tennessee Whiskey”. I told him I don’t know it that well and he said “sing it anyway” and left. I quickly looked up the song on my youtube music and heard it a little so I could improvise. I sang it and then he told me to go over to his table.
He then proceeded to say that I was cute and all but I’m too comfortable. I need to get out of my comfort zone. He sees “rockgirl” in me. He wants me to sing Janice Joplin and wear KISS (the band) type of make up and clothes. I told him I don’t sing what makes me comfortable. I sing what the guests want. This is a hotel bar where people come to drink a cocktail, read a book and watch the sunset. They love it when I sing bosanova and norah jones. He said “yeah but I’m telling you this”. I knew he was the owner because the bartenders told me, he didn’t introduce himself to me, he just started speaking to me. I told him I could sing a few rock songs from my generation like Paramore but that it’s not my repertoire or my voice type to sing those types of songs (plus I don’t want to injure my voice just to please him. Again, this isnt endgame for me). He said he sees untapped potential in me and that by monday i need to show up like he wants me to.
I then went back to singing and sang those Paramore songs I promised him. He then stood up came up to me, reached to my face and removed my glasses off my face. As I said “I need those to see” he threw them in my tip jar and said to not bring them on monday and to let my hair loose (its very, VERY windy there). I felt like he didn’t care about any objections I had, he just did what he wanted.
I called the manager who booked me and told him about this incident exactly how I’m telling it now and how I’m afraid of monday. I refuse to show up dressed how he wants me to after that disrespect. If he asked nicely I would’ve done it with all the love in the world but not like this.
Now I’m feeling like I over reacted and should’ve just not told the manager anything and just go on monday dressed how he wanted me to and sang the songs he wanted me to (although i dont know any janice joplin)
Was I wrong for getting upset and telling the manager?
Btw: there is no contract that states anything about how i should dress or what songs I should sing. It’s been agreed upon on the day they hired me that I would sing what the guests want and I would take requests from the guests if I know the songs.

2023.06.02 19:39 One_Ninja6748 Almost at my wits end!

I (36F) have been in a relationship with my boyfriend (43M) for 16 years. We have 4 kids together (15M, 11F, 8F and 7F)
Lately my boyfriend has been having really shitty behavior towards everyone. It started off with him resigning from the PTA. That's when he admitted to me (after sending his email to the PTA) that he wasn't feeling well, that mentally it's not going too good. He's very grumpy, irritable and almost nothing pleases him. He's been criticizing EVERYTHING lately.
This brings me to what happened last night. Usually he has a couple of beers before a couple of glasses of whiskey or whatever we have in the house. He's been like this since the first lockdown. It's become a part of his nightly routine. This is a very important detail to keep in mind.
Last night he decided he wanted to play fight with our son. I was busy doing something in the kitchen and the 3 girls were in bed. When I got back to the living room, my boyfriend was pissed because our son punched him in the face. This apparently happened after my boyfriend slapped him. Both of them were in a rage. I managed to break them up, but then my boyfriend started bitching at our son, saying that he had no respect for his father and that he's just as shitty as the rest of them (among other things)
I told them both that next time they acted that way with each other, I would call the cops.
My son wound up going to bed pissed. Today my boyfriend is acting like nothing happened. Whereas my son is so pissed at him, it's not even funny.
Combine my boyfriend's immaturity when he's drinking with a bit of testosterone and shit hits the fan. I've told him several times not to play fight with our son. Ever. He never listens to what I say.
It's always his way or no way. Like when I mentioned I wanted to go back to school, he told me I was too old for that and that he wouldn't help me pay and that I was stupid for not just getting a job at the local supermarket.
All I know is next time he acts this way, I'm going to leave with the kids.
Edit to add: when I mention telling the both of them I would call the cops, I meant that I would have my boyfriend arrested. I know my son isn't in the wrong in this situation. They were both sitting in the same room, so my comment was directed at both of them, but I also explained why I would call the cops.

2023.06.02 14:43 Lunemanea In the midst of my first experience

What can I say.. I'm impressed.
Took a good 70mg of noble powdered kava to get me to a sweet spot. I would liken it to a low dose of edibles without the paranoia, mixed with a glass or two of whiskey.
My question, how will this affect my next day? Will I get the same hangxiety effects as alcohol? Should I be drinking plenty of water and electrolytes while drinking kava?

2023.06.02 08:13 RockRevolutionary182 Love the Google pixel hate that I will never own one again because Google refused to understand the issue

I've been fighting with Google for 2 months as a result of Google's horrible customer relations and partly my fault I've been billed and accidentally paid with auto pay $599 for a Google pixel 5 just black and I'm not talking about in 2020 I'm talking May 2023. In March I had a Google pixel 7 pro I dropped it the day after I got it without the case on a hard floor and broke the back glass. I don't know if anyone's ever done this but I was upset about it even though it will always have a case on it I'll know it's broken. Well it doesn't matter after about a month I was having issues with the charger port and it could only be charged wirelessly I have the phone on the wireless charger and I had to take it out the case to charge better my cat decided she wanted to play with the wire she knocked the phone off onto a dumbbell with two metal weights on it it hit in the screen so perfectly that it destroyed the phone. I had traded in my Google pixel 2 and with some other promotion Verizon was offering it turned out that I had more money in promotions than the phone cost and it is the only reason I got this 7 pro they take a few dollars off my phone bill each month for owning it when I say few I'm talking $2 and change. I solve a regular phone bill and insurance just not a device payment so after breaking I did not want to pay the $200 deductible and started using my old phone which was a Google pixel 5A 5G. One day the screen went black me and my son both tried fixing it with suggestions from YouTube videos careful one of them makes you call 911 and without a screen there's no way to stop it. My son did it twice I did it once. So I call Verizon thinking that the phone was covered under my insurance plan because it said it was on the My Verizon app it's actually says that the 2 plus the 5a and the 7pro were all covered. Anyway I call Verizon to try to get it fixed without a deductible because there is no damage to the phone to phone was in fact replaced right before I got the seven with a refurbished phone. They say no problem they send the next day phone out when I open it up it's a Google pixel 5 black I call them back they say all we are so sorry they send another phone again it's the Google pixel 5 black. Now for people not familiar with Google phones the Google 5A is not like the Samsung series a phone it's more of an in-between in the case of the five the five a has a lot bigger display and some other features the 5A is a superior phone to the five by getting the five I was downgraded. So after receiving this second five I call again they send another phone except this time they were slick they didn't actually send anything so after waiting the two days I called back and they said oh well the order was never processed so they send another phone guess what I get the five again I called back and this was happening because Verizon doesn't sell the five a I don't know if they ever did but I had bought this phone from Google directly and I'm still making payments on it btw. so now I'm very frustrated I call Google Google says the phone's out of warranty even though I'm still making payments on it but the screen going black problem since there was no damage is covered under the extended warranty because it's a known issue. They said take the phone to the local asurion AKA I break you fix. I do this they replace the screen and the battery the phone still doesn't work they said the logic board needs to be changed but they couldn't get it in or something I call Google back they said no problem send them the phone. I send the phone and a few days later I get a letter in the mail saying that the cost of the repair is more than the phone is worth that they would have to send me a refurbished but because the phone was damaged I would have to pay $129. I immediately call them and say what do you mean damaged and they say well did you use our packaging or your own I said my own well it was damaged and shipping was there immediate response I told them no. I have an Etsy business where I sell crystals literal crystals and I shipped them the people all over the country I have never had a product damaged in shipping in a crystal is a lot more delicate than a phone. I explained this to them and I don't know if the employees are told not to listen to the words that the customers are saying or if they just think that all the customers are liars and don't bother to listen but he kept insisting that it must have been damaged during shipping. Now Google apparently doesn't have a way for a different departments to talk so the customer service guy had no way of contacting the people that worked on the phone and asked them what the actual issue was. I asked for manager they reluctantly gave me one after an hour wait I was told the manager call me back the next day two days later I missed a call but they emailed me I emailed them back I finally got to talk to the manager. He told me that back glass was cracked the phone doesn't have a back glass and I must have got damaged during shipping because I didn't use their packaging. After explaining to him that didn't have back glass he finally started believing me a little he said that he was going to talk to the people higher up than him and get it resolved he said that there's no way for me to contact him and higher than him he's the end of the line that he has to plead my case and this was on Friday he said he'd contact me Monday. Well Thursday rolls around I still don't hear from him I contact him back I hear nothing. I then get the phone back in the mail. I opened a packaging and I noticed that the damage you're talking about was it improper ly installed screen I will add a photo of the so-called damage device that got damaged and shipping I'm packaged it so poorly that the phone didn't get cracked at all or broken but the bottom of the screen slightly popped off of the phone are they really expecting me to believe this. So after I tell them that the phone was actually damaged by asurion the people they sent me to the manager that I've been talking to had someone else contact me saying that he was out and that Google was ready to resolve my issue by giving me $25 credit in the Google store. I also got a separate email saying that Google store was lowering my credit from $1,500 to $200. Now this is a total coincidence I'm sure even though I've bought a 300 doller smart watch ,phones ,Chromecast devices all from the Google store on credit and have never missed a payment and have never been late in years but they still lowered my credit limit negatively impacting my credit score by six points. After telling them I'm not happy with this they apologize and tell me that they're sorry but this is the way that Google does business and all the guidelines have been followed in that I cannot contact him again on this or something because the case has been closed. I've never been so disappointed with a company in my life I've had people switch from Samsung more than one to Google after getting the Google pixel 2 XL I loved that phone and it saddens me that I will never get to use another Google pixel device because I will never buy one again I will never buy anything from Google again normal any of my immediate or extended family so they've lost thousands of dollars because they wanted $129 to fix a phone that their partner company broke on me. Oh and here's the kicker I go back to you fix I break last week and the location that I went to that had all the information in the repair person that worked on my phone is gone. They closed the damn location down I contacted asurion corporate office and waiting for a response from The resolution team. And the reason I said that it cost me $599 is because I still have the Google pixel 5 that they had sent me because I know other device to use Verizon told me I can use the device until I resolve this issue with Google then I had to ship this device or the 5A back to them but I had to give them a phone back that has no physical damage. Verizon reluctantly refunded the $599 that they took out of my bank account after I turned off auto payments and I only bounced my car insurance payment that automatically comes out the day after because it took 3 days to get the money back into the account the best part is I didn't know this until I got a letter in the mail saying my insurance was about to be canceled. I'm not saying like most of society would that that is Google's fault it is mine I was negligent in keeping up with my account balances and because of that almost lost my insurance. I would have been able to get it back but probably not at the same rate and if there was a lapse in coverage I probably would have had to have the vehicle inspected by them before they would cover it fully again. I'm really disappointed and surprised that the disrespect by Google technical team and customer service is treated me. And the way they told me well this is how we do business go kick rocks. I said somewhere in this book of a message that I would add photos I didn't realize at that time that I could not add photos to this community I apologize.
