2023.06.03 13:04 Avo_cadoss Any ways to improve English?
Hi! I'm a sec 4 student this year, taking my O'level in less than 6months. English has always been a subject I couldn't manage although I have been studying in Singapore since primary school. I live in a' Chinese environment ', and I barely speks English even to my friends. Despite trying many ways to do something bout it but I still don't know how to improve my english. Paper 1 is slightly better, but when It comes to paper 2, oral and listening, I just want to kms (especially for listening). For the first semester, I'm aware that my english score will pull up my cutoff points during actual Olevel... I rlly need some tips to improve English :(
For add info, my Chinese is rlly good and I feel like Chinese is 10x better than English đ sometimes I don't even understand the passage and I just copy something from the passage when I don't know how to answer the question. I usually need ard 3 more marks to pass my paper 2 :( Then for listening, I feel that I understand but my answers always wrong WHYYYYYY I'm desperate. I get like 11/30 for listening?
I'm taking my Oral prelim in a few days and I'm super nervous. Need help rn :(

2023.06.03 13:03 liverpool4ever1 15 Day Itinerary Check (Tokyo - Kyoto - Osaka - Tokyo)
I am going on this trip with my wife in mid October. I've out together an itinerary and was hoping someone with experience could give their view on it and whether I have planned too much. Also, whether anything I've included is actually not worth the hassle or similar to something else.
About us... Mid 30s. I am not a fan of crowds (they bring my heart rate up) and am aware that many of the places on the itinerary are crowded but my wife really wants to go to Japan so here we are. My favourite holiday activities are things like kayaking and nature walking (moderate hikes are fine with us) - I love nature and beautiful scenary. To be honest, I've struggled to incorporate these things into the itinerary so if there's any suggestions people may have for activities close to where we are going I'd love to here them. I saw you could kayak in Okutama but all I could find is group things and we really don't like group activites.
I have one request for food suggestions which is a fancy dinner local to The Gate Hotel in Ginza on Day 13 (But not so fancy that jeans/smart shoes are needed as we won't have those).
Neither of us are into anime but the wife likes pokemon.
We are flying from the UK. Flight departs at 7.20pm so we expect to sleep on the plane.
Day 1 - Monday 16th October - Tokyo - Hotel Metropolitan Tokyo Marunouchi
Land at 5.15pm. Check in at hotel and go to Asakusa / Senso-ji / Sumida Park
Day 2 - Tuesday 17th October - Tokyo - Hotel Metropolitan Tokyo Marunouchi
Teamlabs 9am. Pokemon Cade midday. Shibuya Sky 4.30pm. Shinjuku in evening (getting all the reservation places done in one day)
Day 3 - Wednesday 18th October - Tokyo - Hotel Metropolitan Tokyo Marunouchi
If the weather is nice, we will do the Hakone Round Course recommended by Japan Guide, ending with using the onsen at Yuryo.
If it's cloudy we will do one of the following day trips: DisneySea, Nikko, Okutama, Takao (I've looked at all of these but none of them really grabbed me)
Day 4 - Thursday 19th October - Tokyo/Kyoto - Good Nature
Checkin at 3pm. Nishiki Market (right next to hotel). Walk to Kiyomizu-Dera and Yasaka Pagoda. Then Pontocho Alley for food.
Day 5 - Friday 20th October - Kyoto - Good Nature
Arashiyama bamboo at 7am. Row boat on river. Walk to Otagi. Then Sakyo-ku if not tired. In the afternoon/eve, head to Shinbashi-Dori / Shirakawa River Walk
Day 6 - Saturday 21st October - Kyoto - Good Nature
Have a lay in due to early rise yesterday. Either rent a bike and roll around or spend the day at Kibune (any suggested bike routes for a Saturday?). Another alternative is a river boat but I've struggled to find ones other than the rapid one near Arashiyama which we don't want to do. In the evening, go to Koda-ji.
Day 7 - Sunday 22nd October - Kyoto/Osaka - Swissotel or Fraser Residence
Fushimi Inari at 6.30am. Checkin 3pm, travelling via Kyo-train Garaku if we can. In Osaka - Shinsekai in the afternoon and go to Dotombori in evening.
Day 8 - Monday 23rd October - Osaka - Swissotel or Fraser Residence
Minoh Park (is this too similar to Kibune?) 10am to 1pm. Then Sumiyoshi Taisha and Dotombori in evening.
Day 9 - Tuesday 24th October - Osaka - Swissotel or Fraser Residence
Universal Studios. Umeda Sky Building in evening.
Day 10 - Wednesday 25th October - Osaka/Tokyo - Hotel Metropolitan Tokyo Marunouchi or Dai-ichi
Checkin 3pm. Tokyo Dome / Akihabara
Day 11 - Thursday 26th October - Tokyo - Hotel Metropolitan Tokyo Marunouchi or Dai-ichi
If we didn't do Hakone on Day 3, we'll do it here regardless of weather.
Otherwise, one of the day trips mentioned in Day 3: DisneySea, Nikko, Okutama, Takao
Day 12 - Friday 27th October - Tokyo - Hotel Metropolitan Tokyo Marunouchi or Dai-ichi
Another one of the day trips: DisneySea, Nikko, Okutama, Takao
Day 13 - Saturday 28th October - Tokyo - Gate Hotel
Checkin 1pm. We are switching hotels as this one has a cool, big room and a hot tub on a terrace high up. Plan is to chill during the day and go for a fancy local dinner in the evening (suggestions for dinner would be great) then chill in the hot tub with the city lights.
Day 14 - Sunday 29th October - Tokyo - Gate Hotel
This is technically the final day as we will be checking out at 11pm to travel to the airport for a flight that leaves at 2.45am on Day 15. Plan is Harajuku and Yoyogi Park during the day.
The only bits I have listed on my spreadsheet that I've not included in the above are going to Hamarikyu Gardens and going to the tea house and getting a ferry, plus seeing Rainbow Bridge. I've struggled to fit these in.
Thanks for reading!

He arrived with his parents and his famous siblings - Janet, LaToya, Jermaine, Tito and Randy. They waved to the fans chants of ÂMichael is Innocent! https://preview.redd.it/p8jtchhn0p3b1.jpg?width=612&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9cb1c23e69cfefb6e4608aa16b3650011976c106 Defense attorneys completed their closing arguments, labeling the Arvizo family liars and con artists trying to pull Âthe biggest con of their careersÂ. "They are trying to take advantage of Michael Jackson," said impassioned defense attorney Thomas Mesereau. "They are trying to profit from Michael Jackson. They think they have pulled it off. They are just waiting for one thing - your verdict." "What they are trying to do to Michael Jackson is so harmful, so brutal, so devastating if you have any reasonable doubt about the double-talk, the lies, its over. You must acquit Michael Jackson," he told the 12 jurors. Mesereau spoke about the American system of justice and said, "We have the best system in the world and ladies and gentlemen I'm begging you to honor the system. You must acquit him." He accused prosecutors of trying to "dirty up Michael" because they lack the evidence to prove their case. "The witnesses are preposterous, the perjury is everywhere," Mesereau declared. "None of it works. The only thing they've had is to throw dirt all over the place and hope it sticks." He added: "If you look in your hearts do you believe Michael Jackson is evil in that way? Is it even possible? It really is not." Mesereau then played excerpts from a video in which Jackson denies any sexual impropriety and said that he had Ânever been betrayed or deceived by children. The defense attorney conceded that Jackson had been lax with his money and had let the wrong people into his circle. But, he said, the singer was not the Âmonster the prosecution were trying to depict and that he was not guilty of any crime. Afterwards, prosecutor Ron Zonen delivered a brief rebuttal. He sought to answer the question of JacksonÂs motivation for the crime asking, "Why would Mr. Jackson do it? Because he could This child was in love with him. This child would do anything he said." Zonen reminded jurors of the past allegations made against Jackson saying that this was necessary in order to Âsee the total pictureÂ. He claimed that Jackson was Âin love with his 1993 accuser and added that the current accuser is a Âclone of the boy in that case. After both sides rested for the last time, Judge Rodney Melville ordered the eight women and four men on the jury to begin their deliberations. He gave them a 98-page book of instructions. The Judge told Jackson that he could stay at Neverland during the proceedings but requested that the attorneys remain within 10 minutes of the courthouse in case the jurors had any questions. These deliberations are the final stage of an ordeal that began 14 weeks ago. During this time the jury has heard testimony from over 130 witnesses. A verdict was expected early next week. Court Transcript While Jury deliberations take place, the whole Jackson family waits for the verdict at Neverland. https://preview.redd.it/lh5l7gqo0p3b1.jpg?width=612&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e5967b6b6c73b0a56bec2b5b8e28f20e68b9ddb7 2008 - Michael has dinner with Thomas Barrack Jr, chairman and CEO of Colony Capital LLC, at the Las Vegas Hilton's Verona Sky Villa. 2009 - Michael goes to Culver Studios with Prince, Paris & Kenny Ortega, where he shoots âThe Drillâ 3D https://preview.redd.it/5lzzqj2t0p3b1.jpg?width=736&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8747a49dd0f9c68ae73b6f93fa21e2f9e01b6a77 https://preview.redd.it/hezl4ayt0p3b1.jpg?width=199&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1dae7ef1a99ee196a5be6dbfb8cd5ab243856f58 He also, once again, goes to Dr Kleinâs in Beverly Hills. 2013 - Jackson v AEG Trial Day 22 No Jackson family member was at the courthouse. Paul Gongaware AEG cross Putnam asked Gongaware if MJ was comfortable with all the show dates. "Yes, I went through all of the dates with him," Gongaware said. Bugzee, the tour manager, had a big calendar on the walls, Gongaware explained, saying they changed the dates of the shows four times. The jury was shown an email in which Gongaware worked with a staffer to create a calendar to show Jackson. He wanted colors changed. He wanted the calendar to be changed so that it reflected Jackson's show dates and off days differently. Gongaware email: Figure it out so it looks like he's not working so much As to the email, Putnam asked if he was trying to fool Michael: "No, I was trying to make it clear, trying to get it just the way I wanted it," Gongaware responded. After changing 4 show dates Gongaware said Michael was comfortable with it. He would do 8 shows in July, 10 in August, 9 in September. There would be no shows in October, November and December, resuming with 10 shows in January, 10 in February and three in March. No back-to-back shows. Gongaware said the O2 Arena had a previous commitment in Oct-Dec of 2009 and they could not have the concerts. Putnam: "Was this a rigorous schedule?" Gongaware: "No, not at all" Gongaware recalled that on the HIStory tour they did 10-12 shows per month, from country to country, but this one would stay in London only. Gongaware said he wasn't concerned with Michael's age. "He seemed great to me," he said, and this was stationary show, didn't have to travel. Gongaware: The reason Michael wanted to delay the 1st show was he wanted more time to rehearse in the O2 Arena where the show would take place. He said Michael and Kenny Ortega would decide the rehearsal schedule. Gongaware explained Michael didn't have to attend rehearsals, since it was not part of his deal. He said they never require an artist to rehearse. "I didn't have any expectation," Gongaware said regarding Michael rehearsing. He said he's never seen a requirement for a musicial artist to rehearse & that during the HIStory tour, Michael didn't rehearse but nailed it. "When it was game time, he would show up," Gongaware explained. For instance, Gongaware cited an outdoor concert in Bangkok in high heat, humidity. As to the email Gongaware wrote about calling Michael lazy, he said he used unfortunate choices of words, Michael didn't like to rehearse. Talking about the elements of the show, Gongaware described what they wanted to do for the opening of the show. He said Michael would be dressed up in a LED suit, like a television, flashing on him brief movie about things that happened in history. Michael would be lowered down onto the stage. He called the LED suit a "Moon man" suit, but Ortega called it "Light man." Putnam showed a presentation of how the LED suit idea would work. Footage is not on This Is It documentary because it was early stages of prep. Gongaware said the 1st idea was to make Michael float from the audience, but they couldn't make it work. So they decided to lower him down onto the stage. Gongaware said the big screen on the back of the stage was 3D capable. The audience would be given glasses when they entered the show. The 3D songs would be Thriller, Earth Song and Smooth Criminal. "He wanted to do biggest, best show ever, live show," Gongaware said Putnam showed email chain from Ortega to Gongaware asking to make a deal with choreographer Travis Payne. Answer from Gongaware: This is not AEG money, it's Michael's money so it takes a lot of time to get approvals Defendants were trying to establish a pattern that all the money spent was actually Michael's money, not AEG's, just like with Dr. Murray At one point Gongaware said he learned from Michael about a doctor named Murray. "He came to me and said he wanted his personal doctor on the tour". Gongaware said he suggested to Michael to get a licensed doctor in London who would know the lay of the land, in case of need. "This is the machine, we have to take care of the machine. I want Conrad," Gongaware said Michael responded. I think what he meant was his brain could create it but his body had to deliver the show every night Putnam: "Were you surprised he wanted to take his doctor on tour?" Gongaware: "No" Putnam: "Why not?" Gongaware: "He had doctors before" Gongaware said other artists take doctors as well, so he was not the only one and it didn't surprise him. Gongaware said he's been on tour before where an artist had chiropractors, but couldn't remember being in one with a doctor Putnam: "Did you worry Michael might have a health issue?" Gongaware: "No" Putnam: "Why not?" Gongaware: "He seemed fine to me, had a physical and passed" Gongaware said the suggestion for a London doctor was due to the cost; paying a doctor full time was much more expensive than hiring a local doctor. Gongaware said Dr. Murray treated Michael for about three years before 2009. He knew the doctor was from Las Vegas but said he was in LA. Gongaware said he then called Dr. Murray to work out a deal. Gongaware testified he didn't have Michael's direct phone number, would go through Michael Amir Williams, his personal assistant, to reach him. Gongaware called Murray on behalf of Michael saying the singer wanted to take him to London. "What do you want to be paid for that," Gongaware asked. Gongaware said he thought Dr. Murray was expecting his call and was aware of the desire to take him on tour. "He said he would need $5 million," Gongaware recalled. "He said he has 4 clinics to close, would lay off people, needs $5 million for that." Asked by Putnam if Murray's price was reasonable: "It was ridiculous," Gongaware said about the amount asked. "It was a lot of money for something like that and Michael could not afford it." Gongaware said he responded that it wasn't going to work" He said this was the first time he spoke with Dr. Murray. After that, Gongaware said he told Michael Amir and Randy Phillips what the doctor had asked. He also told Frank DiLeo. Gongaware said a lot of people who wanted to work for MJ asked for huge sums of money, thinking he had a lot. Putnam: "Would you be doing this if Michael had not asked you?" Gongaware: "No" Putnam: "Did you contemplate bringing a doctor on tour?" Gongaware: "I didn't think he needed one, we didn't have one in History, he was fine" "He was Michael's doctor, Michael wanted him. That was it," Gongaware said. Putnam:" Did you think about checking the doctor?" Gongaware: "No" Putnam: "Why not?" Gongaware: "He was Michael's doctor" " I'm not going to tell Michael Jackson who his doctor should be," Gongaware explained. "It wasn't my place to say who his doctor was going to be," Gongaware said. "It was his decision." Gongaware said he doesn't think a doctor's financial situation has anything to do with being an ethical doctor. Gongaware said it never crossed his mind to either do a background check on Dr. Murray or to suggest to anyone to do it. "I just expect doctors to be ethical, the financial side of their lives shouldn't have an impact on their medical decision," Gongaware opined. Gongaware said he never did a background check on anyone he hired and had he done one on Dr. Murray, it would've been out of the ordinary. He also said he never considered performing background checks on Jackson's makeup artist, a choreographer who worked one-on-one with the singer or Kenny Ortega, the tour's director. "I didn't see the need for it," he said. Dr. Finkelstein, a friend of Gongaware, said a doctor should charge $10,000 a month for the tour work. But Dr. Finkelstein would've done it for free, since he was on the Dangerous tour before and had a lot of fun The second call about Dr. Murray came from Michael Amir Williams saying they were going to need to get a deal done for the doctor. Gongaware said he heard Michael in the car saying "offer 150, offer 150." Gongaware understood that to be $150k/month. Gongaware called Dr. Murray, said he was authorized to offer him $150k a month. He said Dr. Murray responded that he couldn't do it for that. Gongaware told him the offer came directly from the artist and Dr. Murray responded: "I'll take it" Gongaware said Michael approved the amount of compensation. "Michael told me offer 150," Gongaware recalled. "And that's what I did." Gongaware inquired from Dr. Murray how he would get a license in London and the doctor told him not to worry about it. They talked about Dr. Murray's request for a house in London, and the doctor said he would need a three bedroom house. Gongaware recalled Dr. Murray saying he would probably need an assistant and some equipment, but no details were given at this point. After the call, Gongaware said he let Michael Amir Williams know what the result was in a May 6th email: Done at 150k per month, per MJ. He needs about 10 days to wind down his practice then he will be full time Asked why he had negotiated with Murray, the AEG executive replied that he was "instructed to by Michael Jackson." Gongaware said there was no other reason for him to deal with the doctor. Marvin Putnam asked Gongaware why he didn't tell Jackson he couldn't take Murray on tour with him."Because he could if he wanted," Gongaware said. Gongaware said he passed Dr. Murray on to Timm Wooley, never had any other conversation with Dr. Murray about him possibly going to London. Putnam: "Do you have any understanding as to whether a contract with Dr. Murray was executed?" Gongaware: "One never was" Putnam: "Did AEG pay Dr. Murray any kind of money?" Gongaware: "No" Gongaware said Michael was ultimately responsible for his own health: "I think everyone is responsible for their own health and well being. He was a grown man with the capability to make decisions regarding his health and medical care" Putnam showed Gongaware a frame from the This Is It film in which Jackson's manager, Frank Dileo, was sitting in on dancer auditions. Dancers auditions took place at the Nokia Theater on April 13, 14 & 15. Michael attended the last day and made the final decision, Gongaware said. He said Ortega wanted to film the audition to use fresh footage on michaeljacksonlive.com. The cost for crew to shoot the audition was very high, so Gongaware bought a couple of cameras and used his own crew to shoot the rehearsals. He said he wasn't sure what he would use the video for, but thought the website would be a good platform. Gongaware said during the period at Center Staging, Michael was good, engaging, didn't think there were any health issues or was using drugs Gongaware said the media in the UK was going wild with gossip about Michael Jackson. "They just lie about things." The Sun claimed Michael had skin cancer on his chest. "It was sport over in London," Gongaware said about stories on tabloids. Gongaware testified about emails in which UK press agents working on This Is It sent him tabloid reports on Michael's health. Gongaware said he urged the press agents not to respond. He wanted Jackson's performance to speak for itself & silence skeptics. Gongaware on 5/27/09: The Kid is healthy and rehearsing every day. He was still there at dance rehearsals at 9pm last night when I left. Our redemption will be when he does his shows, that makes all of this build up so damn sweet. We don't have to sell tickets, so we can just sit back and prove them wrong by just doing it. Gongaware said he was not concerned "If there was something going on, if he had cancer, we would've heard about it." Michael Jackson rehearsal venues: - Mar 28- Center Staging
- May 27- Forum June 23 - Staples Center
- July 13 - O2 Arena
Putnam also asked Gongaware about an incident Karen Faye testified about, that she heard him yelling at Michael's assistant one day. The incident occurred while This Is It rehearsals were happening at The Forum in LA. Faye claimed she heard Gongaware yelling about Jackson being late to a rehearsal and told his assistant to get him there. "Never, never happened," Gongaware said, shaking his head. Putnam went through a chain of emails about tabloid reports in the UK regarding Michael. In one, it said Michael had asked AEG to reduce the number of shows by half. Gongaware said that such a discussion never happened. Gongaware testified he woke up to one gossip headline pretty much every day. His idea was simply to ignore the tabloids. "An amazing show would be the answer", Gongaware said Gongaware on 6/5/09 in response to Sunday Mirror Query: "We can only make this work, of course, if MJ puts on the best show of his life. I'm here to tell you that be will. I have seen it for myself. Last night he ran 9 songs with full band, singers and dancers. Sang every one, he was amazing, captivating, riveting. And he's just getting started. Taking it one step further. When people realize that bulls**t the press has been, they will be in receptive mood for the truth Hey look. No skin cancer. He's just a good dad, loving raising his kids. His art and his craft are paramount. A gentle, loving man who does care about people "The shows were going to be spectacular," Gongaware said. Putnam showed a clip of Michael in front of a green screen with 11 dancers, who would become 11,000. Gongaware said Michael was great at this point Regarding email Phillips sent Gongaware directing to remove Michael's "skeletal" scenes Gongaware said he didn't take anything out of the movie. Putnam: "Did you remove anything from the movie?" Gongaware: "No" Putnam showed a clip from This Is It with the making of "Thriller 3D" and Jackson wearing red jacket. Putnam: "Did you try to alter in anyway how Mr. Jackson looked, appeared?" Gongaware: "No" Gongaware said he didn't remember any of the footage been removed because of how Michael looked. "We just let the footage speak for itself" The mini-movie of "Earth Song" a bulldozer would come out from a ramp in center stage. Putnam: "A real bulldozer?" Gongaware: "I wish, it would've been cheaper, but it would have crushed our ramps" Gongaware said they had to build the bulldozer like a prop. It would appear at the end of the song on stage. "I think the live audience would be just captivated by it," Gongaware said about the little girl running after the last plant on Earth song. End of the show would be 3D animation. An airplane taxis up, door opens, Michael entered the plane. The airplane door closes, Michael would actually take an elevator down and out of the building, but the plane would take off over the audience Gongaware said he didn't know if anyone was responsible for Michael's nourishment. Tour would be demanding and exhausting Gongaware said he met Dr. Murray once at MJ's Carolwood house and ran into him at The Forum during rehearsal. There was a meeting scheduled to discuss Michael's nutrition with Randy Phillips, Kenny Ortega, Dr. Murray, Michael, Gongaware and DiLeo. Putnam: "Do you recall anyone in that meeting ever telling Dr. Murray how he should be treating Michael?" Gongaware: "No" Gongaware said he didn't have any medical training and wasn't qualified to tell Conrad Murray how to treat Jackson Gongaware said neither Dr. Murray nor Michael talked about the treatment he was receiving. The meeting was about nutrition & vitamin therapy. Gongaware said he had no idea Dr. Murray was giving Michael Propofol and first heard of the anesthetic after Michael died. Gongaware said Dr. Murray was really engaged in the meeting, seemed like a very intelligent guy and wanted to take care of Michael very much. This was the first time Gongaware met with Dr. Murray. He said there were no signs of Michael being poorly treated by the doctor. "Michael was engaged in the meeting, attentive, seemed happy we were having this meeting," Gongaware opined. "He's a doctor, he'd know better than anybody how to treat his patient," Gongaware said about Dr. Murray. As to Gongaware's email saying AEG, not Michael, paid Dr Murray he said he was mistaken. "We wouldn't pay his salary, we'd advance Michael's money". Gongaware said he didn't remember writing/receiving the email, but never denied he did it. As to Michael being habitually late, Gongaware said the singer worked on his own schedule, did things his way Gongaware said his understanding was that Michael hired a trainer of his choice, Louis (Lou) Ferrigno: "I made the deal with him (Ferrigno). He was supposed to be paid a certain amount of money per session" He didn't elaborate on fee, how many times he worked with Michael. Putnam showed an email from Travis Payne, he suggested a massage chair to be put in Michael's dressing room. As to Bugzee's email saying MJ needed cheeseburgers, brats and beers, Gongaware said Bugzee was joking, Bugzee cared very much for Michael. Gongaware testified he didn't recall having any concern about Michael's health/using painkillers as of Monday 6/15/09, 10 days prior to his death Gongaware was asked about several emails that have been shown before, including messages related to MJ missing rehearsal on June 19, 2009. The executive was on the East Coast for a family wedding, but responded to one message questioning why Murray wasn't at rehearsal. Gongaware email: Take the doctor with you. Why wasn't he there last night? He then explained his thinking to the jury. Gongaware: If his patient is having a problem and he's sick, and he's his only patient, it seemed like he should be there Gongaware said on 6/19/09, he was out of town. "This is the day Michael had chills at rehearsal and was apparently sick," Gongaware recalled. "If the meeting was going to be about what happened that night, the doctor should be there," Gongaware said. Gongaware said he believed Michael wanted to go on tour. He said he doesn't remember anyone talking about pulling the plug on the shows. Putnam: "Did anyone tell you at this point that Michael needed a drug addiction specialist?" Gongaware: "No" Putnam: "Did anyone tell you they were concerned with the care Dr. Murray was giving to Michael?" Gongaware: "No" Gongaware said that on 6/20/09 he did not think Michael's health was deteriorating. With last questions of the day, Putnam asked Gongaware if he was concerned about Jackson's well-being. He said "Yes" Court Transcript submitted by FelicitySmoak_ to MichaelJackson [link] [comments] |
2023.06.03 13:02 Temporary-Energy7021 Some Of My Arena/Mutt Ideas
Iâve been planning this for a bit but Iâm probably never going to write this into existence so here it is.
ARENA: The arena is surrounded by snow-capped mountains. The mountains are scattered with hot springs, caves and tunnels (most blocked by walls of ice). Most of the land is covered in forest and thin-frosted streams. The Cornucopia is located in the centre of a frozen lake.
EVENTS: 1. After most tributes are dead, a storm will brew. All tributes in the forest will be safe. However, the higher the altitude climbs, the worse the weather will get. All the tributes in the mountains will be forced to take shelter in the tunnels/caves. When this happens, multiple rigged rockfalls will trigger and trap them inside. This will divide the remaining tributes into two groups: those in the forest and those in the mountains. Creating split footage.
EVENTS: 2. The arena becomes hotter. The snow-covered trees in the forest will begin to melt, revealing a thick layer of wax underneath. All tributes in the forest will suffer intense heat. While this is happening, the tributes in the mountains will be trying to escape. The melting ice will slowly flood the tunnels.
EVENTS (FINALE): 3. The wax-covered trees will start burning. Emitting a putrid smell that induces vomiting. The wax is explosive and will burst like fireworks.
MUTTS: 1. Owls that vomits green bioluminescent fluid on tributes. The fluid will glow at night and reveal their hiding places. It is invisible during the day and wears off quickly. Mutated in the Capitol, the fluid will slowly kill them (the owls). They live for only two weeks.
MUTTS: 2. Deers. Pretty fast. Their hoof-prints are mutated to look like tributesâ tracks in the snow. Creates paranoia.

2023.06.03 13:01 TrickOk2137 Inconsiderate or overthinking?
I know this is trivial in comparison to a lot of the posts on here but Iâm kinda trippin about it..
Iâve been working hard to better myself and get my family back together this past year. My ex and I split a little over a year ago after ten years and 2 kids together. I was selfish in a lot of ways, I was burnt out, lazy in life and as a lover. She cheated, I kicked her out, later told her I wanted to make it work, she wouldnât commit one way or another and weâve been kind of off and on since.. But things have been going well lately.. We been hanging out as a family (with our two kids) a lot lately and been slowly rekindling the flame w my ex. Last weekend was her wknd w the kids, I spent it with them and had a great time. Her and I got some alone time and that went well too, we also slept together for the first time in a long time. I finally started feeling like things are going in the right direction. My bday is in 2 weeks and weâre gonna spend the day together with the kids then go out just me and her at night.
This week was a rough week for her, kids have been sick and she hasnât been sleeping much or feeling well either. We live two hours away so I feel helpless when stuff like this happens. She came up tonight after work and dropped the kids off. Normally I make the trip to pick them up on Fridays but my car is being fixed so she offered. She got here late, like 11, and asked if she could stay the night because she has to be at work at 5am and wasnât feeling good. I said of course. She got into my bed and I took care of the kids til they fell asleep.
Got into my room around 12, she was up and said her neck was bothering her so I rubbed it for her til she fell asleep. I work graveyard so I donât sleep at night, or much at all really.. around 130 I went into my bathroom, shaved, showered, washed face while playing low music on my phone. I got out and she was wide awake saying I woke her up by doing all that. Itâs a master bed/bath and the separation between the bathroom and bed is a couple feet. I closed the door but still.. I apologized and she didnât seem mad or come off angry she just said she needed to be up in 40 mins and decided to go to sleep in the living room.
Like I said I apologized and I feel terrible. I didnât think id be loud enough to wake her but I feel like it was inconsiderate af for me to do that, which is somethin she has called me out for numerous times in the past.. I knew she had to be up in a few hours and hasnât slept or been feeling well. I know sheâs a light sleeper too, so idk what I was thinking. I feel like I just fucked up all the progress Ive made by being so inconsiderate. Am I overthinking?

--- Hr3101m973Sâs perspective---
---Tuesday, 31st of October, 2682 Terran Calendar---
---Southwestern Scotland---
I ride the speeder at an altitude of 307m over the rural landscape.
I have 158 other bodies making similar deliveries across Britain right now, as well as 29 in Ireland and 11 in Doggerland. Though, none of them have quite as
spectacular a view as this one does so, for the moment, this is the body whose sensory feed Iâm paying the most attention to.
I see a large herd of mammoths walking at the edge of the Galloway Forest.
Though it has a better view, the news Iâm carrying with
this body is just as grim as all the rest.
In hindsight, itâs probably a good thing that I was such a spendthrift with regard to my fleet of courier bodies⊠If I hadnât been, if Iâd selected abilities that let them do much more than deliver things, they may well have been requisitioned for military use⊠which, I
suppose, they were
anyway⊠but thereâs a
big difference between delivering notices on Earth and fighting on some distant planet!
Still, if sacrificing my replaceable bodies would save even a single irreplaceable life, I would definitely have done it.
The city comes into view.
Calling it a â
cityâ may be a little generous⊠it only has 2,507,963 inhabitants.
That
may have been a respectable city in the 22nd
Century but, for context, nearby Dumfries has 7,491,509 and Glasgow has 24,339,192!
Stranraer occupies a
rare middleground between the historic hamlets that are allowed to exist in the countryside and the megalopoleis where around 98.32% of people on Earth live.
I land in the northern part of the town and step off my speeder.
I get some raised eyebrows as I walk from the landing pad to the residential home.
I donât blame them!
Before the War, every single one of my courier bodies had a full suit of elastomer over their entire body, to make them seem more lifelikeâŠ
Now, though, thatâs considered a luxury and, so, this particular unit is walking around with its metal endoskeleton bare, bar its uniform.
The effect can be a little offputting⊠though, in
truth, it may also have to do with the
news theyâve inferred me to be delivering to
some unlucky soul.
I cross the wall into the garden and begin walking up the steps, through the mosslawn shrouded by pinus sylvestris trees, to the house on top of the little hillock.
It takes me 12 seconds to reach the door from the gate⊠I canât rush, I need to give this girl her due respect.
I rap on the door 3 times and hear the knocks echo through the cavernous hall behind.
A man opens the door.
I begin, speaking in the most popular local dialect of Lallans Scots that I know to be this manâs primary speech register âGreetings, Mr Baird. I donât know if you remember me butâŠâ
âI
remember you! Iâm organic, not
daft! Youâve been here enough
times alreadyâŠâ interrupts the residential care manager, his demeanour gruff and no-nonsense ââŠ
Come in, Hermes⊠You can wait in the kitchen while I go get her.â
I step into the building, passing below the lowest of 5 balcony walkways into an open space with a skylight ceiling, allowing in the natural light.
I let the man lead the way to a large kitchen.
He pulls out a chair for me.
âThank you, Sir, but I believe I ought to remain standing to make this delivery.â I respond, politely.
âSuit
yourselfâŠâ he shrugs before walking off, presumably to fetch the girl he knows Iâm here for.
I wait several minutes before he reappears.
The girl he has in tow is the perfect match of the file photo (though a few years older). She is average height, 178cm, and has an average build. Her skin is pale, her eyes are emerald green and her hair is long, absurdly voluminous, curly and
vividly red.
She looks to be in fine physical health and is making no pretence of illness or injury, though she
is scowling at me.
The grey bearded man shuts the door, leaving me alone with the girl.
âCould you tell me your name, please?â I ask, already knowing.
âEsme Reid.â she answers, truculently.
âAnd your date of birth, Ms Reid?â
â31st of October, 2664. Come to give me a
birthday present,
have you(?)â she says, folding her arms, pursing her lips and looking away to the kitchen counter by the window.
âThank youâŠâ I say, reaching into my bag to withdraw a letter and a large holopad with a stylus attached.
I hold the letter out to her and say âThis is your conscription notice, Ms Reid. Please sign receipt of it here.â indicating the holo.
Her eyes flick from the paper to the screen before she drily answers âI donât suppose, if I donât take that or donât sign for it, thatâd mean I couldnât be drafted,
would it(?!)â
I shake my head and respond âIâm afraid that no such loophole exists, Ms Reid⊠If you have a conscientious objection to fighting, you could request a nonmilitary national service. However, you
would be asked to provide some
proof of your conscientiousness andâŠâ
âIâm no bleeding heartâŠâ she says, snatching the letter from my hand, irritably ââŠIâll sign for my bloody
death warrant!â scrawling her name on the pad.
Without looking at the pad, I check the signature she provided against the one on file and find it a close enough match to proceed.
âThank you, Ms Reid. Please report to your local recruitment office in Stranraer within 14 days for your physical and psychological fitness assessments. Theyâll then interview you regarding your preferences for training and deployment and theyâll
try to take those into account when assigning them.
â
Great(!) Maybe if I can convince my evaluator that Iâm cracked enough in the head, I wonât get sent off to
die like my mam and dad did(!)â she quips, sarcastically.
âI donât think youâll have much luck with
that strategy, Ms Reid⊠Solâs government have had quite the interest in weeding out malingerers these past few years⊠I would put the odds of success below 1%.â 0.75619902%, actually, but thatâs
too many decimals for most biologicalsâ patience(!)
She frowns up at me and demands âIâm being
such a brat about this⊠Why are you
still being so friendly!?â
I laugh âMs Reid, though I
strongly encourage you
not to express the same demeanour to your
drill instructors as you are with
me, you are far from the worst person Iâve delivered this news to in even the last half
hour!⊠Right now, Iâve got a draftee in Leeds whoâs explaining a hairbrained scheme involving unethically cloning a replacement to fight in his stead, Iâve got one in Bristol whoâs trying to beat up my body but only really succeeding in hurting herself, Iâve got one in Edinburgh thatâs run away in an attempt not to be served⊠by
comparison, a bit of scowling and sarcasm is rather
tame!â
âHuh!⊠Guess Iâm not
quite the bad girl Ms. Larch always
told me I was, am I(!)â
âIt seems you shall simply have to work
harder(!) I believe there is a leather jacket emporium in Stranraer that still does businessâŠâ
She smiles and laughs for the first time that Iâve seen.
Thatâs the
real reason I donât get touchy about the attitudes expressed to me by draftees: It makes my job so much easier when I soften the blow with good manners and good humour.
As unfair as it is that so many choose to shoot the messenger, itâs understandable when you consider the messages I carry.
âMs ReidâŠâ I start, seriously but softly ââŠif you
truly do not wish to fight, you know there
are alternatives? You can discuss them with your recruitment officer butâŠâ
âI got
no special skills, Hermes⊠Nothing I can do that an AI couldnât do faster and better⊠The Merchant Navyâs basically as dangerous as the
Navy Navy, just
less armed⊠the Humanitarian corps has a waiting list so long that the Warâd be
over (one way or another)
long before they got to the point of considering
me⊠I
know where
Iâ
m going⊠no use in fighting itâŠâ
âAlright, Ms Reid⊠I wish you the
bestâŠâ I say, turning to leave.
Mr Baird shows me out of the house.
Rather than walking back to the landingpad, to retrieve my bike, I walk the other way.
My bag is still heavy with conscription notices⊠it only makes sense to deliver all the ones in this town firstâŠ
---Oskarâs Perspective---
---Southern Doggerland---
The evening sun plays off of the calm waves of the North Sea.
It should be
raining on a day like thisâŠ
This gorgeous weather is slapping me in the face and telling me to be happy, to be contentâŠ
I know the weather does not care for the happenings of people⊠I know that, if it rained everywhere and every day there was a funeral, the whole
world would flood⊠I know this⊠and
still⊠I
hate this contrast between my grim, internal misery and the tranquil sun drenched beach where I stand, this autumn day⊠Thereâs
barely even any
snow on the grassâŠ
When this War started, I was fourteen and had two loving parentsâŠ
My Father was too old to serve, at 51âŠ
At 37, my mother was
notâŠ
Yet, itâs not my
motherâs funeral I am attending right now. That was two months ago.
No⊠the strongly built 55 year old man, dressed in a long white robe and clutching a Norse langsverð, despite having been a
fishfarmer and not a warrior, is my father⊠Lars âWalkerâ Taylor.
His eyes are closed and he lies within a wooden boat, around 80cm wide and 3m long.
This boat was never meant to touch the water⊠I bought it from a supplier in Bankland that specialises in funerary boats for Doggerlandâs Forn Siðr community.
I already recited a poem⊠thereâs nothing else for me to do until the singer begins.
Iâm not listening to the Goði prattle on about Valhalla and Ragnarök⊠Iâm just looking at my fatherâs face⊠oscillating between hating him for doing this to me and hating myself for doing this to him.
The sermon concludes and a blonde woman, like everyone else present, dressed in snow white funeral clothes, steps forward.
One of the three men behind her brings his bow to the three strings of his tagelharpa, another raises a flute carved out of a cowâs leg bone to his lips, the last begins banging out a slow beat on his drum.
The band would definitely be larger if so many of the Hofâs musicians hadnât been called up to serve.
The men begin playing a mournful tune and the woman begins a wailing, melismatic melody, not in English, the first language of most here, not in my fatherâs native Frisian, not even in New Norse, the liturgical language of his faithâŠ
She sings in a strain of Norwegian that was spoken
centuries ago, when there were barely
any Forn Siðr practitioners living.
mfâ« Eg songane sĂžkte Eg songane sende DĂ„ den djupaste brunni Gav meg drĂ„par sĂ„ ramme Av Valfaders pantâ«mf I have a final part to play in this ritual.
The Goði picks up the torch and lights it against a flaming brazier before beckoning to me.
I step forward from the small crowd.
In contrast to most, whose clothes are pristine white robes and tunics and such, I wear the same simple white suit that I wore two months ago.
I may be a nonbeliever but no one at my fatherâs Hof challenged the idea that I was the most fitting person to perform this last rite for him.
I take the torch from the man and walk to my fatherâs side.
I hesitate before I touch it to one of the mounds of high energy, smokeless fuel that surround his body⊠but only for a momentâŠ
The flame quickly takes and, before the current verse of the song is even finished, the entire boat is engulfed in fire.
I toss the torch in and step back from the conflagration.
Minutes pass as I watch the inferno consume the entire pyre.
I barely notice the music stop.
I barely notice the crowd thinning as people leave.
I just watch as the manâs existence is wiped from the Earth.
âHave you thought about what youâre going to do now, brother?â asks a voice from beside me.
Without looking at the Pagan cleric, I dully answer âI have.â
âAnd, what is
that⊠if I may ask?â
âMy birthdayâs in January⊠Iâll be drafted⊠but I donât have to wait⊠Iâm going to go to the recruitment office and request an early start to my training⊠by the time itâs done, Iâll be 18 and theyâll be legally able to deploy me.â
âIâŠ
see⊠thatâs certainlyâŠ
an option⊠Have you
thought aboutâŠ?â
âI havenât, Tormund. This is what Iâm doing.â I state, still looking at the blaze.
âI see⊠I wish you
well then, OskarâŠâ Tormund says, sincerely.

2023.06.03 12:55 Mountain_Dare_9153 Phone stolen at Coachella, been getting tons of scam messages but todayâs was threatening..
2023.06.03 12:48 is_this_a_god_dam AITA for confronting someone who to broke my trust
So I live in the same house with my ex, (11 months left on our lease) we have been separated for 8 months and while we didn't work as a couple we have forged a great friendship.
Me ex's best friend (was a close friend of mine too) found out there was a girl I liked, I asked her to please not say anything to my ex. I stated that I would tell my ex if and when this becomes something. Ex's friend (let's call her Kate) didn't get it arguing it wasn't a big deal and that my ex is sorta kinda out there. I said be that as it may it's a conversation I should have with my ex when that time comes. She agreed not to say anything.
Fast forward a month later and the girl I liked didn't go anywhere, not even a date And my ex and I were talking and she came out and asked me about the girl I liked My face went blank , I explained nothing is or was happening and I didn't tell her because I was waiting to see if it would be a thing and it wasn't. I told Mr ex I was upset because I felt that even though we are friends when we start seeing some one I felt it was a conversation we should have with each other
I asked my ex how she found out she refused to say anything. I then figured it out, it was Kate and I asked her and her face said it all. I was livid!!!
I called Kate and asked her where she got off betraying my trust. Kate responds I didn't tell her anything and then states she doesn't have time for this and hangs up
My ex then said she appreciated that I was thoughtful enough to where I thought it should be a conversation that I had if things went anywhere with Heather
I replied, how did you know her name??? My ex replied, don't make me say it, you already know.
Then before I could say anything about Kate lying. Kate blows up my ex's phone with How could you tell him I told you? And blocks her saying she is done and univites her to their memorial day celebration
A few minutes later I get a similar text saying I had no right to yell at her and I was blocked.
The next day my ex says Kate unblocked and apologized sort of.... I asked what that means and my ex said well she said she was sorry but that my ex shouldnt have said anything Then my ex continued to say Kate feels my secret wasn't really a big deal and I'm making too big deal out of it
It's been one week Kate and I haven't spoken. Kate feels I should make the first move because she did nothing wrong
My ex is on my side but doesn't want to go to war with Kate and would rather just not rock the boat.

News item: Anthony Bass, a pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays, shared a video Monday via Instagram endorsing an anti-LGBTQ boycott of brands such as Target and Bud Light.
"Here's the reason biblically why I believe Christians have gotta be boycotting Target, Bud Light, and any other corporation that's pushing the things they're pushing,â Bass said. âI think a lot of people make this into a political issue, or they say, 'Oh, what's the big deal?â
âThis is evil, this is demonic, we won't stand for it, we're not going to go to the stores anymore and we're not going to give you our money.â
It would be impolite to wish that Mr. Bass, who throws a ball for a living, blows out his elbow. Perhaps then he could simply blow it out his tailpipe.
Because Iâve grown tired of sanctimonious and hypocritical moral outrage over what Target and Bud Light are âpushing,â while itâs permissible that Bass and his ilk get to âpushâ their beliefs on the rest of us.
Example: In the last two months or so, Iâve been questioned a half dozen times in public as to why Iâm drinking Bud Light. Seems people like Bass have objected to Anheuser Buschâs marketing partnership with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney. Their boycott of Bud Light has led to a decrease in sales both locally and nationally. (Local bar and restaurant owners say Bud Light sales are down almost 30 percent.)
It is their right, of course, to boycott the product. Iâm just curious as to why what Iâm drinking is their business. I drink Bud Light because I like it. And Iâm still drinking Bud Light because I will not marginalize people based on gender, race, religion, ethnicity, or sexual orientation. Iâm respectful enough to support someone elseâs desire to evolve into another gender. And Iâm not stupid enough to believe that my decision to drink Bud Light changes who I am or what I stand for in any possible way.
But I wonder why itâs so important for people â and the questions to me havenât all come from men â to announce their disdain for a bottle of beer, tacitly implying their sexuality is ânormal.â Remember this one and write it down: If you are truly comfortable with who you are, you neednât announce anything to anyone.
And yet to further illustrate how screwed up this country really is, thereâs this: Anheuser-Busch hasnât merely been accused of alienating its traditional customer base with the partnership, but some LGBTQ+ campaigners have also criticized the company for not defending its ties with Mulvaney.
Amid all the finger-pointing and fear-fanning, the truth hides in the corner, too scared to emerge. The truth is that we are supposed to think critically, weigh evidence from both sides and then make up our own minds. Instead, weâve become a country hell bent on legislating whatever cause we think is right and just, while burying the other side from all consideration.
Itâs political tribalism. All or nothing. One side or the other. If youâre not in agreement with every morsel of the transgender movement, you are a snarling, hating, infidel. If youâre not in total agreement with Anthony Bass and his beliefs, youâre going to wither in hell.
But what if â and hold on to your ascots here â two conflicting positions can still be true? Example: What if I support Bud Lightâs decision to use a transgender influencer, but also believe that transgender high school athletes belong in their own division?
I disagree with the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conferenceâs policy complying with a state law that requires all high school students be treated according to their gender identity. We should consider a sports-centric law that acknowledges sports' unique challenges and accommodates the physical component for success that exists virtually nowhere else in society.
Sex discrimination in education, health care, housing and financial credit have no place in this country. But we must â must â realize and accept that sports require a physical component to succeed that calls for different guidelines.
Put it this way: Applying to a school or for health care, housing or financial credit requires no physical component to succeed. Sports require speed, strength and agility and do not fit under the same umbrella. And yet sports are routinely shoved into the same arguments about unfair treatment. Injustices get piled on for rhetorical usefulness, even though they're not applicable.
The male born composition has inherent physical advantages, rare exceptions noted. But in the aggregate, there are physiologic differences between biological males and females. I donât believe writing that makes me transphobic. We should respect a personâs pronoun of choice. But that doesn't mean we have to blindly agree with claims that are not supported by science.
Yet that appears to be the new end game in this country. Blind agreement. Their side or yours. And here I sit, sipping my Bud Light, trying to figure out why so many of us act like the last three letters of Anthony Bassâ last name.

This article pretty much sums up exactly how I feel about the situation. Bud Light basically sent someone a can with her image celebrating a milestone. The fact it turned the beer into enemy number one doesnât surprise me considering the vitriol that has become commonplace in our country. I have had plenty of private messages regarding a video I posted supporting a beer, and more importantly a human being. Most have been vehemently against my support of both and relish the chance to send me a screen shot of Bud Lights stock on a daily basis with a âGo woke, Go brokeâ ending. I believe much of the vitriol comes from news and talk radio which is why Spotify now fills my vehicle with music instead of talk. I ask everyone to limit their news intake to 30 minutes per day regardless of your party affiliation to center your life. Sometimes my radio will land on a ânews stationâ, and I can feel my blood pressure rise as the most divisive topic of the day is being discussed with a majority of the facts not being considered. I am not recommending folks to ignore whatâs happening in our world, but would point out that our country has survived many decades without the need for âup to the secondâ news reports. Most of the things we worry about will never happen and it seems our country is living in a constant state of fear which is certainly to blame for the vitriol. There will never be a point where everyone in the country will collectively say we are all happy with everything, but I still have a deep believe that with constructive conversations and true empathy we can get us close. When I get my boat in the water I would love to have an ice cold Bud Light while listening to my relaxing boat playlist, and of course talking with my favorite sports writer. Thatâs an invitation Mike. Great article.

âBud Light sales are down between 26% and 35% nationwide additionally Budweiser and other AB brands (Michelob Ultra, Busch Light and Natural Light to name a few) have also taken a hit of around 11%.â
All the more reason to explain what set this off. Completely unhinged.
âMy take, buy Coors stock nowâ
And that statement reinforces my point since Coors has been a decades long supporter of LGBT rights probably the biggest supporter (it all began with a workegay alliance boycott ironically⊠or not)
âCoors Light has been a sponsor of The Center and Denver PrideFest for decades,â says Rex Fuller, CEO of The Center on Colfax. âThe work we have been able to do at The Center over the last four decades would not be possible without this support and we are grateful for it.â
Beyond supporting Denver PrideFest, Molson Coors has a distinguished history of supporting LGBTQ communities across the country, with significant support for organizations such as Human Rights Campaign (HRC), Matthew Shepard Foundation, National Amateur Gay Athletics Association of America, National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, LGBT Victory Institute, Out & Equal, and One Colorado.
In addition to these partners, Molson Coors works with local LGBTQ organizations in key communities through its Tap Into Change program. Annually, the summer program donates more than $100,000 to these organizations with a consistent growth in impact each year. Events take place in each city to help raise additional funds, awareness, and support for the missions of these local organizations. Over the past 10 years, Tap Into Change has raised nearly $600,000 for local LGBTQ and HIV/AIDS nonprofits.

This is even though like 2006, 2010 and 2014 they had to go through boycotts for this. And they did shrink back in response, but also came right back and didnât move backwards for long.
And what will I do?
Continue drinking Corona because I drink what I drink.
Itâs damn near impossible to do a successful boycott long term. The web of corporate connections means when you think youâre hurting one, itâs actually benefitting another one connected to it.
The beverage brand that owns Budweiser, Corona, and Stella Artois, is suing US beer-maker Constellation Brands for using the Corona brand name in a hard seltzer, according to a lawsuit filed Monday.
Beverage giant Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev) acquired Coronaâs parent company, Grupo Modelo, in 2013, but US antitrust regulators required it to sell the companyâs US-based business to Constellation. AB InBev retained rights to the products in other markets, and the deal gave Constellation the rights to produce Corona and other Modelo brands in the US.

Regarding this column actually Mike what you are writing is basically the same as the boycott and the changes in attitudes (political divide) of the country. Often used by politicians on BOTH sides of the aisle screaming to be open, defending oneÂŽs right to choose, freedom of speech etc.. and this is the most important part..âunless it does not validate their opinion or viewâ. This is exactly what you are writing. So if someone elects to boycott something and we know the WOKE police and Leftists enjoy not only condemning opposing viewpoints to the point of boycotting, attacking employers for the âviewsâ of their employees etc⊠and demanding they be removed from the position their are in. So if someone boycotts something let them⊠I would ask you⊠why does it offend you that others are using their constitutional right by boycotting (freedom of speech). I always respect otherÂŽs opinions and even when we do not agree. Sadly we live in a world where people are afraid to speak up due to the potential ramifications. 2023.06.03 12:39 Resident1567899 A Hybrid Leibniz-Duns Scotus PSR Argument for the Classical Theistic God (with stage 2 of course)
Time for something new. I've been thinking for a while about this argument so I though I'd post it here. This is not a comprehensive argument though. This argument was inspired by Leibniz and Duns Scotus hence the name. The purpose is to garner possible rebuttals and objections so I can better improve it in my study.
This argument concerns stage 1 and stage 2. However, this post doesn't concern about which religion, it is only to prove the classical theistic god. Arguments about which religion are true use prophecies, miracles, etc...are beyond this post and will be ignored and downvoted.
(1) At least one contingent fact exists call it C
Should be relatively uncontroversial. By contingency, I mean in need of explanation/reason. I use explanation and reason interchangeably, they mean the same thing. By fact, I mean a proposition be it a human, animal, event, object, thing, etc...If you reject premise 1, then what do you classify all the objects around us? What's your metaphysical system then?
(2) Every contingent fact requires a sufficient reason
This invokes the Principle of Sufficient Reason (PSR) formulated by Leibniz and improved upon by Alexander Pruss. I'll give a few evidence, proofs and reasons to believe in it.
First, our entire scientific system and academic learning depends on being inquisitive and asking "why?" Asking this very question lead us to discover revolutionary scientific theories. Rejecting the PSR implies we shouldn't ask why nature is the way it is, in effect, stopping scientific progress,
Second, suppose we have a phenomenon and several plausible explanations. We then reasonably assume that the best of these explanations is probably the right one, at least if it is significantly better than the runner-up. We need a reason to choose the best one which is where the PSR comes in. Rejecting this leads to confusion and in-decision over which explanation is the best.
Third, PSR gives us support and grounding. If the PSR is false, what claim do we have to believe your life is not a simulation, that everything is just a dream. We need reason as our foundation for literally everything,
Fourth, a companions in guilt argument. If the law of excluded middle (LEM) is self-evident as a logical law, then why the PSR, the principle of reason itself should not?
Five, intuition. Humans are born with the capacity to reason and find the best explanation. Even babies do reasoning. No human lives without having the desire to find reason and explanation.
Six, rejecting the PSR is self-defeating. To reject the PSR, you'd need a sufficient reason itself why it's false which is literally what the PSR is.
Here's a more comprehensive defense of the PSR
(3) So, C requires a sufficient reason
This just logically follows from (1) and (2)
(4) Either the sufficient reason for C comes from being necessary, by itself, by being a brute fact or from another being
These are four options I could think of. I know of no other options beside these four.
(5) Not from being necessary since C is contingent
This is leads to a contradiction. An object can't be both necessary and contingent at the same time.
(6) Not from itself since circular reasoning is impossible
Example, stating the reason for me being born is because of myself is plainly wrong. A sufficient reason would be something like my mother being pregnant, etc...Another example of why this cup exists. It would be wrong and absurd to say because it exists since this explains nothing. A better reason would be because I created it. It has to be something other than itself and external.
(7) Not by being a brute fact since a brute fact has no reason/lacking a reason
Another contradiction. We've already defined C as being contingent and requiring a sufficient reason in (1) and (2). An object can't be both requiring a reason and yet has no reason/lacking reason, a contradiction.
A second problem is it's discriminatory. Why is only C a brute fact and not other contingent facts? Stuff like humans, dogs, cats, Beethoven, etc...? Why only C? Why can't all those other contingent facts also don't require a reason, i.e. being a brute fact? Why only one?
(8) So, it has to come from another being
By process of elimination, we arrive at the only non-contradictory option
(9) If it comes from another contingent being, then that being also needs a reason from another being and it is also contingent, then so on ad infinitum...
This just a simple inference. If it's contingent, then it still requires another source. I'll address infinity below.
(10) A infinite chain of explanations is not a sufficient explanation
This was proposed by Rowe and Pruss. I'll use Pruss' cannonball example. If we say the reason the cannonball is at t9 is because it was at t8 and so on...we haven't explain why the cannonball was launched itself. A sufficient reason would be because a soldier fired it. Another example, there are 7 Eskimos in New York City. Eskimo 1 is at street A, another Eskimo 2 is at street B,...until Eskimo 7 at street G. It's no good to explain why Eskimo 2 at street B is because of Eskimo 1 at street A and why Eskimo 7 is at street G is because of the prior Eskimo. We still haven't explain why there are Eskimos in the first place in NYC. A sufficient reason is because those 7 Eskimos are visting NYC on a field trip.
(11) So, it must come from a being of Pure Reason (BPR)
Meaning a being who's reason is himself i.e. a necessary being. Here ends stage 1 and begins stage 2.
(12) Reason is the result of intelligence and free will
Example, a rock can't reason or have intelligence and other examples. Only beings with intelligence and free will to think can create reason and do reasoning. Unlike the Kalam where a natural being is sufficient, on the PSR argument, a natural option is not.
(13) So, this being can't be a natural being and must be a being of intelligence and free will
Follows from (12)
(14) This being must be singular since necessary propositions and reason would be contradictory
Example of a necessary proposition is 2+2=4. If there were multiple BPRs, then 2+2=4 is correct but so is 2+2=5. Both can't be true at the same time. If anyone answers, both beings can reconcile each other, I do not believe God can violate logic itself. I defined omniscience as being maximally knowledgeable. There are somethings God can't do.
(15) This being must be omniscience
This just follows that the source must be omniscience i.e. being maximally knowledgeable
(16) This being must be omnipotent
Only an omnipotent being would have the power to create all the logic and reason in the world (by world I mean a totality)
(17) This being is singular, has free will, has omnipotence and omniscience
Follows from the previous premises
(18) Therefore, this is what we call the classical theistic God
Follows as the conclusion. I take the classical theistic God to mean being singular, having free will, omnipotent and omniscience
(19), Therefore, the classical theistic God exists
Conclusion
Recap of the argument:
(1) At least one contingent fact exists call it C (2) Every contingent fact requires a sufficient reason (3) So, C requires a sufficient reason (4) Either the sufficient reason for C comes from being necessary, by itself, by being a brute fact or from another being (5) Not from being necessary since C is contingent (6) Not from itself since circular reasoning is impossible (7) Not by being a brute fact since a brute fact has no reason/lacking a reason (8) So, it has to come from another being (9) If it comes from another contingent being, then that being also needs a reason from another being and it is also contingent, then so on ad infinitum... (10) A infinite chain of explanations is not a sufficient explanation (11) So, it must come from a being of Pure Reason (BPR) (12) Reason is the result of intelligence and free will (13) So, this being can't be a natural being and must be a being of intelligence and free will (14) This being must be singular since necessary logic and reason would be contradictory (15) This being must be omniscience (16) This being must be omnipotent (17) This being is singular, has free will, has omnipotence and omniscience (18) Therefore, this is what we call the classical theistic God (19), Therefore, the classical theistic God exists
EDIT:
Objection : A necessary being can't produce a contingent effect. Then read this
https://www.reddit.com/askphilosophy/comments/1en3p2/comment/ca1y4k5/?context=3 Objection: Premise 11 and 6 contradict Premise 6 is applicable only to contingent objects not necessary ones
Now, I do not believe in this argument. I have my own rebuttals and objections but I'd like to see some new objections against this argument. This seems a better argument than the Kalam since it argues for both stage 1 and stage 2.
And if stage 2 fails, we still have stage 1. I think if stage 1 succeeds that'll be a much better argument than say the Kalam which already fails stage 1.

I'm at the end of day 5!! It's not much, but it's the best I've been able to do in over 6 years. And, boy oh boy, I did not expect this so soon!
The motivation I have is insane! I went for a walk before work today, I had a clear mind and did my job well, I ate 3 whole, well-rounded meals. I work at a bar, didn't drink at all (which is so so hard when you're literally surrounded by it), and after my shift, was able to sit on the other side, enjoy a coke and a ton of water, and talk with people. And I'll be able to remember the things I said and they said to me!
After I got home, I wasn't a total drunken, stoned mess and was able to refill my water bottle, shower, AND brush my teeth. Little things aren't a huge chore. I have plans to cook breakfast and go for another walk tomorrow. I have plans to read instead of just squinting at my phone, trying to make the words appear straight.
I feel amazing! My skin is already so much clearer and less inflamed. I feel like once my stomach isn't such a terrible mess, it'll be another amazing moment of clarity.
I know there will be days where all I want is to "have fun" like everyone else (I'm looking at you, July 4th), and it'll be hard. There will be days, like yesterday, where I cry and wonder if I'm strong enough to weather the emotions I've been numbing. But all I can do is come back to this sub and remember the pride and liberation that comes with sobriety. Maybe one day I can be like that amazing person who almost missed their 11 year sobriety re-birth(day).
Day 6, LET'S GO!! IWNDWYT!!!
I love you guys

2023.06.03 12:21 espressoBump Rent: What the hell is this "Water Metering Chargeback" on my bill and why is it so high?
I live in Arium and when I started renting a few years back I called them to see what it was and the worker had no idea what I was talking about and said "it's for water the bill can be really weird". I let it go because it was only about $20. Everyime I checked it was quite low so I didn't bother diving into it. But that last few months were more expensive. My rent went up but there was an additional ~$150 on my bill.
You can see below the first two charges are quite high so I complained then I didn't have a charge over $10 for two years, so I didn't bother putting those items below. But recently, I started paying an a** ton and I have no idea why. I wasn't even home for the month of May:
6/1/2023 Water Metering Chargeback $151.14
5/1/2023 Water Metering Chargeback $140.93
4/1/2023 Water Metering Chargeback $146.87
3/1/2023 Water Metering Chargeback $54.96
2/1/2023 Water Metering Chargeback $20.98
- two years gap, all payments under $10 -
12/1/2021 Water Metering Chargeback $37.20
11/1/2021 Water Metering Chargeback $35.12
There isn't a leaking pipe or anything so I don't know what the hell this is but it's ridiculously high.
Am I an idiot, what's going on here?
Edit: I see that chargeback is a way for a landlord to collect money for something they already paid for and water metering is water usage. But this can in no way be accurate since it shot up to $150 randomly. So my question isn't what is it, my question is how is this possible?

2023.06.03 12:20 2seokdeeznuts13 Two Kakampinks walked into a café
Two Kakampinks walked into a café.
This was after they lost the elections, and they've recovered na from the hard-hitting reality. Mga one year later na 'to.
They were in 12th grade senior high when they chanted along with the pink crusade, now they're both in their first year of college. The first is taking up a course on secondary education, major in English; the second, business administration. Well, dahil unti-unti na silang nagiging busy sa kanya-kanya nilang buhay, minsan na lang sila magkita. That's why these two friends, when they found the time, arranged this date.
The café was a typical modern café. It was one of those minimalist-styled establishments na may maliit na blackboard sa labas with cute chalk doodles to highlight its business hours. The interiors were adorned with overhanging indoor plants. The wooden tables varnished to golden-brown shine. The walls were an of an aesthetic black, designed with white huge calligraphy of optimistic cliches nabbed online. The entire place had a yellow lighting, setting up the ambience, making the entire place worthy to be posted on Instagram.
Waiting naman the tables, is an apron-clad guy with a deep dimple and a bulging Adam's apple, who was handsome enough to be romanticized.
But the two Kakampinks didn't care for him, as they are in love to each of their boyfriend. That's characteristic of women. When they're in love with a guy, the other guys get ignored, no matter how handsome they are.
Anyway, there they were. Sitting side-by-side. In an intimate table for two, catching up with each other's lives, that is, chatting about that funny professor they've had, that campus event in their respective university, that latest episode of that Netflix show they watch, that one fond memory they keep recalling. There was noise, there was glee, there was laughter, there was whispering, and of course, as this was in a café nga, there was eating. Particularly the eating of a creamy carbonara; and of a mushroom soup; and of a red velvet cake; and of a frappe; and of other dishes and beverages and desserts that one has to take a picture of before eating it.
Well, the hours passed and the skies got darker. Without alcohol, they began to get drunkâdrunk from the intimacy that only friendship can give. From the honesty that this drunkenness has granted them, things then began to get political, as one said to the other:
"I don't know if you feel it too pero I cringe about being a Kakampink."
This remark came from a train of thought that began with their discussion of the leftist initiatives they've heard in each of their campuses. To this, a reply:
"Oh my god, ikaw din?" with gleaming eyes, the other said. "I feel that too. Takot lang akong i-verbalize sa circle ko as that may be an unpopular opinion today. Ang binary na kasi ng lahat. Any anti-pink rhetoric can suddenly turn you into a pro-red apologist."
"Then, this is a good thing na we share the same sentiments. And I'm glad na it's with you, whom I can finally speak of this." she said, "you know, I keep seeing sa fb feed ko yung fb memories of the pink rallies. My friends keep resharing them ta's sasabihing the best era daw. Well, whenever I see shares like that, I feel this funny feeling of cringe. Primarily from my intellect."
"Same. Probably kasi, we used to belong in there?" she replied, "we used to be one of them, in that pink crusade."
"Probably."
"Pero, I guess, that's okay. A wise man once told me na cringing at your past self is one of the surest sign that you've progressed to maturity."
"I like that. Education through disillusionment." she said with an honest smile. And then, she asked: "well, what led you to your disillusionment?"
"I am not so sure." she said, "wala namang maling ginawa si Leni for me to stop supporting herâpero, i guess the disillusionment came from the closest Kakampink I know, namely my self."
"Yeah, what about your self?"
"I had this episode lang of being moved by the poverty of our people, while I was dining in an eat-all-you-can buffet," she said almost laughing at her self with cynicism, "The restaurant had glass walls, so kita mo yung labas, from the inside. Well, while I was eating nga, may madungis na batang pulubi na dumaan, holding his hand out to me, mouthing something at me. I know na nanghihingi siya ng limos. Pero, I just consciously ignored him, shoving a spoonful of rice na sinabawan ng kare-kare, straight in my mouth. After that epispde, I kept contemplating on the glass walls. Is that not what we're doing? Just the rich and the privileged looking through the glass wall that separates us from the hungry, while we eat and dine and have our fill?"
"You think we're one of the rich and the privileged?"
"Are we not? We think na mga pasistang pulitiko lang yung rich and privileged, yung may subdivision 'gaya ng mga Villar o yung may private jet 'gaya ng mga Marcos," she said, "pero, think about it: don't we belong there, too? As we enjoy all our iPhones Pro's? Our Aquaflask tumblers? Our eat-all-you-can buffets? Our boba teas?"
"Yes, I think we are," the other replied, "If that's how you would put it, we basically are."
"Well, yun," she explained, "I guess, that's the part that doesn't make sense to me. How can I claim to fight for the poor, join them in their plights, while at the same time, enjoy my self in such lavish comfort? I think that would be hypocrisy."
"I'm really glad we're having this conversation," she replied fondly. "cause what you saidâit's so aligned with an idea that I've been thinking about since the pink era was over." she sipped from her milk tea, and then continued, "we both joined the rally 'di ba? And we both saw the people there. And we both saw na most of them had an iPhone. I was just thinking, in retrospect, na maybe, we're part of the oppression too?"
"What do you mean?"
"Where does the iPhone user get his prestige?"
"Well, as a user of one, I don't find my iPhone prestigious kasi I'm not that petty." she said, with a laughing pompousity. "pero i could honestly answer that, in behalf of those petty materialists. The prestige of the iPhone comes from the fact na mahal yun and not everyone could afford one."
"Exactly. And yung mga 'di maka-afford ng iPhone, will have to settle with an Android phone." the other remarked, "so the prestige of the iPhone users, is based on the poverty of the Android users. Now, you can apply that to any material object advertised as a social emblem of luxury. Gucci, Jordan shoes, Starbucks, even the Aquaflask tumbler. The prestige of having one, enjoying one, consuming one, is based on its expensiveness, on how Capitalism privileged it on a pedestal, and on the idea na not everyone could afford it."
"So the glory of the havings is based on the lacking of the having-not's"
"Wow, you've put that aptly in a nutshell." the other remarked excitedly, "and yes! That's about right. The reason why our ideas of luxury, prestige, and privilege exist is because of their lacking, their not having, and their poverty. We are rich because they are poor. That's why I posited na we may be part of their oppression, too."
"That indeed makes sense." the other replied, "that's probably why ide-Day ko ang Starbucks ko, kasi alam kong may maiinggit."
"Right." the other said, with a laughter, "You're getting the idea. Pero you're adding your own mean twist. But that's my point: we exist in a social pyramid of lower class, middle class, upper class, where each class is really stepping on the back of the one immediately lower to them to maintain the height they enjoy. Yung lower class yung pinaka-kawawa as two classes are above them. And in this case we're discussing, their oppression is through our idea of luxurious materialism and the prestige we attach to commodified objects."
"Kaya it won't make sense for us to say 'eat the rich' kasi that would mean we have to eat ourselves."
"Exactly." she said, "the pro-red apologist proud of his iPhone, is the same with the pro-pink proud of her iPhone. They're both from the same greed and gluttony, blinded by the same object fetishism espoused by Capitalism. That's why the Kakampink revolution is not really the revolution. It's a revolt against the dominant group of iPhone users, by just another group of iPhone users. A bourgeoisie revolution. And that does not change things, for as long as the same object fetishism exists, as long as the same ideals for luxury exists, as long as Capitalism's definition of what a self is existsâthe true proletarian revolution will not happen. We simply replaced the rich with a new set of rich."
"Well, what should be done, then?"
"This may be corny, pero I'll say it anyway," she said, shyly, "what must be done is to follow what Christ said to the rich man: sell your possessions and give them to the poor."
"Yes," she remarked, in-between a laughter, "that is indeed corny."
"Yes," she agreed, and then explained: "pero i think it's the closest thing we have to achieve a truly equal, egalitarian paradise as this Christian advice encourages the complete abolition of self and private property by a complete and genuine charity to the entire community."
With a concerned look, the other then remarked, "And by that you mean, surrendering our iPhones, our Aquaflask tumblers, our eat-all-you-can buffets, our boba teas, our ideals of luxury, of vanity, of prestigeâ our spectacular self-images, right?"
"Yes."
"Well, that's too ideal." she said, scoffingly, "can you do that?"
"No, I can't," she admitted, with a secret despair, "maski ako, I can't give up those. I can't live without my iPhone, you know? Pero I guess, the important thing here is we have to be honest about that. Self-awareness is as important as social awareness. We have to see na not only are we inside Capitalism, but that Capitalism is also inside us. We are molded by the same greed, the same gluttony that shaped the fat, privileged capitalist we condemn." Then she adds: "kaya siguro i cringe at my past. i envisioned my naive activist-self as a holy hero in the pink crusadeâthat I was someone noble, fighting a just war. Pero, I can now see much clearer. I'm really just a noisy child with a silver spoon in her mouth, who knows nothing about poverty, and who happens to have read a thread on Twitter. A poser who could courageously scream 'eat the rich' but could not muster enough courage to 'feed the poor.' "
Emphatizing with the melancholia she just voiced out, the other replied, "That reminds me of a lyrics from a song: everybody wants to change the world, but nobody wants to die."
"Yeah, that's about it. That's so true," she said, realizing something. And then, she laughs it off, "grabe. we're on a different level of wokeness here."
"Kaya nga eh. Nagutom tuloy ako." the other assented, a change of mood then took place, "I'm craving for some Samgyup. May alam ka ba na nasa malapit lang?"
"Ay, meron. Walking distance lang from here," the other answered, "madalas kaming mag-date ng boyfriend ko do'nâtara, kain tayo."
They began to pack their things up, grabbing their shoulder bags, clutching their purses. As they walk out of the café, the bell chimes over the doorway signalled their departure. At this, the waiter then makes his move; he cleans up the mess they leave behind.
The two Kakampinks walking out of the café, will now head to that Samgyup resto, to eat and have their fill.

2023.06.03 12:15 Ali_Muhammad_Mallah What would happen if the Earth suddenly stopped rotating, but continued to orbit the Sun at the same speed? How would this affect life on the planet?
| https://preview.redd.it/6pudi5053s3b1.jpg?width=275&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=47a47bc188cc601db6bc54598cb1e2e9b4f6e0cb If the Earth suddenly stopped rotating while continuing to orbit the Sun at the same speed, it would have significant and dramatic consequences for life on the planet. Here are some of the effects that would occur: - Drastic changes in temperature: The rotation of the Earth causes the day-night cycle, with Sunlight evenly distributed across different regions. If the rotation ceased, one side of the Earth would be permanently facing the Sun, experiencing continuous daylight, while the other side would be in permanent darkness. This extreme temperature contrast would lead to extremely high temperatures on the Sun-facing side and extremely low temperatures on the dark side, causing significant challenges for life.
- Extreme weather patterns: The Earth's rotation plays a vital role in shaping global weather patterns. Without rotation, the equator would become much hotter than the poles, leading to intense atmospheric circulation and extreme weather events. Violent winds, hurricanes, and storms would likely develop near the dividing line between the lit and dark sides of the planet.
- Changes in gravity and tides: The Earth's rotation contributes to the centrifugal force that counteracts the planet's gravitational pull at the equator. Without rotation, gravity would be more pronounced at the equator, resulting in a redistribution of mass and potential changes in sea levels. Tidal patterns would also be greatly altered.
- Disruption of ecosystems: The abrupt cessation of the Earth's rotation would have severe consequences for ecosystems. Plants and animals are adapted to the diurnal cycle, which governs patterns of Sunlight, temperature, and behavior. Sudden permanent daylight or darkness would disrupt natural cycles, such as photosynthesis, migration, and breeding patterns, potentially leading to ecological imbalances and extinctions.
- Impact on the atmosphere: The Earth's rotation affects the Coriolis effect, which influences the movement of air masses, ocean currents, and weather systems. Without rotation, the Coriolis effect would weaken significantly, altering global wind patterns and circulation. This would have far-reaching effects on climate and weather systems.
Overall, the sudden cessation of Earth's rotation while maintaining its orbital speed would have catastrophic consequences for life as we know it. The extreme temperature variations, disrupted weather patterns, changes in gravity and tides, ecological disturbances, and altered atmospheric dynamics would profoundly impact the planet and make it extremely challenging for most forms of life to survive. #EarthRotation #DayNightCycle #DiurnalMotion #AxialTilt #CoriolisEffect #RotationSpeed #EquatorEffects #SunriseSunset #PolarNight #CircadianRhythm #CelestialMotion #GlobalWeatherPatterns #EcosystemCycles #TidalForces #CentrifugalForce #AtmosphericCirculation #GeophysicalPhenomena #NaturalCycles #PlanetaryMotion #Astrobiology submitted by Ali_Muhammad_Mallah to ONLINESCIENCEHUB [link] [comments] |
