2023.03.30 02:47 iisoprene I want to use a machine learning walking simulator, but I have no experience. What can I do (if anything)?
I do world building as a hobby and one of the things I want to work on is designing some different creatures and humanoids, and specifically want to get their movements correct. Years ago, I saw a video
like this one that showed computer simulations of designed creatures being put through training sets to teach them how to walk. I would like to use something like to set up the proportions of these creatures, simulate them, and then see what their natural gait emerges as.
The thing is, I don't know how to code at all. I have however been playing with several AI art tools like art breeder and dallE, as well as chat GPT. So I am not entirely out of the loop with what is going on. Either way, would it be possible to use some kind of creature gait simulator to try this out? I wonder if chat GPT could help me with this in some way (the coding if needed).
So, is this something possible that I could do? If so could you please point me to a place to start with? Or, is this something impossible to do without coding knowledge and thus should just wait until some kind of platform that does this is built? I can answer questions if people have any.
Thanks!

2023.03.30 02:44 Chris_Mannix I subscribe to just over 1000 Youtube channels. But, my "homepage" is mostly...
Accounts that I don't follow. I rarely receive suggestions based on my most visited channels. Is it just me? Am I doing something wrong? Is it a setting? I am so baffled. Been going on for like the past 7-8 months.

2023.03.30 02:44 Wanderslost Are channels devoted to niche interests doomed to eventually fail?
If your YouTube Channel is devoted to something very specific, such as cocktails, wood working, or alternative reality games should you design your channel to end at some predetermined point?
I just watched another creator on the edge of tears do video about how views have dropped to a point that is unsustainable. He is still putting in the time, his product is better than ever, but the money is not coming in. I feel like this is where these niche topic channels always end up.
It seems to me that the best of these niche channels run about seven to ten years, and then they crash. I think the problem is that they have simply covered their topic to the satisfaction of the vast majority of their audience. I think when it comes to reviews of hand tools, or whatever, there is a number that satisfies the masses. They have watched enough videos of you and your weird pet, and they are on to the next thing.
But even as they gradually (or not so gradually) stop getting paid, they are still working full time, plus, on content. They can't move on to the next phase of their life, because making content is all consuming. Even when they were kicking ass, the vast majority of creators do not have time to pursue whatever comes next. Am I overestimating the time they work? Are there YouTubers that can make a lifetime of money building their own terrariums? If not, how do YouTubers that have run their course get to that next thing they will do?

best bigfoot evidence apes tend to herd, no one’s seen bigfoots herding. aren't there no solitary apes?
-a child bigfoot- by itself??
are these homeless people?? / who have gone totally nuts and wild long ago- they don’t wear clothes, their haibeards have grown long, theyre dirty, they eat raw meat and plants/ things that they can get their hands on, they don’t like other people coming near them, they spend all their time hiding/scavenging, their skin is used to the weathetemperature, somewhere they have something like a nest they sleep in, or they move at night and sleep during the day for stealth but also for temperature considerations?
21:47- i-evh- indistinct mirage/plasma region in shape of figure?
24:13- could be a pig or two moving around real fast eating apples? Two pigs, one of them’s a calico. One’s in front, facing the camera, head down, eating apples. The second is just behind it and sideways, got its head turned to the side. Pigs move around real fast, blurring the camera. Yes ive seen wild pigs in person lots of times. They’re also nocturnal. They live practically everywhere. You don’t see them in person unless you’re hunting for them. They keep away from people and hide during the day. You wouldn’t believe how fast they move/run, anytime you see them. You’re used to seeing meat pigs on farms, locked up big and lazy. Wild pigs run around real fast and are leaner. They easily outrun humans, no contest, even with the human sprinting. Pig- outta there. Also they tend to move in groups.
25:49- picture so blurry cant make a determination
28:02- possible i-evh, “ghost”. Not a bigfoot photo. A ghost-hunter’s “ghost”. Indistinct cause head is featureless. or something else / person with some type of reflective head covering? if i-evh resembles nearby light a little bit. mix of human figure / nearby streetlight design.
28:48- is arguably a person facing away in a black top and bottom with hoodie. Look how in the upper left photo there appears to be a corner to the head, like the seam in a hoodie produces.
33:25- too blurry
34:59- maybe it is a fake, a human in an ape suit. Stumbles a little bit while turning to look at camera, like a human would’ve done. May have been the director’s only direction: alright come and walk across from here to here, right in the middle turn and look at the camera. The ape is otherwise walking like it’s oblivious to the person- why would it turn in the middle of that and look right at the person? Camera is centered too well on ape. A surprise capture- shouldve been off/shaky at all as person struggles to look back and forth between camera and ape, and as person cant predict what ape will do next. The steadiness of the centered shot seems like camera person knows what to expect and ape was told what to do. Or, maybe it’s a bigfoot, nervously walking away from person. if you look really closely, it does sort of look like it has breasts. if that were a movie suit, it would need to be from a movie that included a scene of lots of apes mixed gender, or a single female ape. otherwise you would expect a standard movie ape suit to be male a la king kong vibe?
35:05- look at how shaky this one is, it seems willfully shaky, as though a created fake. This shot shouldve been steadier if real. Unless theyre shaking excessively from fear?
35:25- could be i-evh plus eah. Had rained earlier- may be affecting atmoshperic static electricity.
37:30- I know there was once a military survival/special forces boot made with a sole that was in the shape of a bare foot, so that you could run through a jungle leaving footprints that looked like natives. The bare foot shape would probably be a little bigger than the person’s actual foot, because it would need to cover the whole sole, so that a tell-tale edge of a shoe would not be visible around it. May have given someone an excuse to go around making bigfoot prints? The very clear picture sort of looks like it was made with this boot because of how clear the indentation is and how it looks flat. i dont know about that side indent. the first one might match but its really too blurry.
The biggest problem with these is that apes and animals all tend to herd in the wild. It doesn’t make sense to see these by themselves over and over again, and the child is the clincher- you really wouldn’t see a child by itself, makes no sense. Where’s its mom? Why isn’t she attacking you? Why isn’t it calling out for her? possible if the group, somewhere, just stays really well hidden, and you only occasionally see strayers.
42:24- well in the lower left that doesnt look like a boot. though then he says, sasquatches do not have an arch in their foot- implying a carved boot sole in the shape of a foot- the one detail you have to leave out is an arch because there isn't enough room in the rubber to carve it. although, evolutionarily, perhaps a non-arched, padded foot could have evolved for a large bipedal ape? i dont know if it makes sense to have a non-arched foot...
46:40- "same individual, same area"- or that's the same hoaxster at work. makes a mold, uses it once. gets a reaction. uses it again a year later, gets another reaction. years later comes back at it again, with a different mold. uses it, gets a reaction. waits about a year, uses it again. gets another reaction. pulls back and waits again. to keep the believability level about right. why do they do it? because then they get to say to themselves every night, "im sasquatch".
46:50: he sure has a lot of these different footprints though.
48:13: still could be one hoaxster. go near campsites, leave big prints, using whatever prop you come up with, and sure enough campers report the big prints. it should be asked, did all of these happen to be found near campsites? an animal that shy of humans wouldn't go near a campsite just to sniff at their food.
in short, i dunno. if they're real though, you should find a group of them living somewhere, hidden in the forest, near where they're spotted. scour the forest with infrared drone or something.

2023.03.30 02:38 vinit__singh Has anyone switched from a service based company to a product based company?
| I used to work for a service-based company before moving to Amazon, and a bunch of my friends from college did, during my preparation I read about a lot of people who did. https://preview.redd.it/zua1axubvrqa1.png?width=589&format=png&auto=webp&s=9f34c898430129a9c2a5f6131ffd581ac690c497 Getting a job in a product-based company from a tier 3 college is difficult and students like me hope to get good experience for 1 or 2 years before they make a presentable case for themselves. Many companies don’t take freshers except top-tier colleges, but for experienced roles, this criterion is not true. Although a few other things come into the picture once you are an experienced candidate. Today in this answer we are going to discuss how one can switch from service to product-based companies and see what are the necessary steps they should follow – Mindset before switching to a Product-based company Because of their ability to be called upon when needed, software engineers succeed in all kinds of organizations. Nevertheless, if you as a software engineer can have additional perks like fantastic bonuses in addition to a sizable salary, flexible work hours, and many other things, it can increase your motivation to work 10x as much. Would you not begin to enjoy your work as well? Well, product-based companies offer all of these things. While finding a position that exactly fits your job profile is important, it's equally critical to take note of how your workplace environment impacts you when considering a change in employers. How hard is it to switch? When you decide to move on from your company, the first thing that comes in your mind is what is this going to cost me? The risk of leaving your previous job in search of a new one is never easy. You have to get back to your skills which have been rusted from repetitive work over the years. If we talk specifically about product-based companies then data structure and algorithms play a vital role in interviewing and solving problems years after graduating from college requires focus and dedication. If one can comprehend through these then switching jobs can be a bit easier. Let’s go through the interview process of product-based companies – Product-based companies generally take rounds which include online coding assessment, behavioral and technical interviews, clearing these rounds is not as easy as competing for coding and interview rounds of service-based companies. They are more focused on problem-solving skills. But, as long as you remain consistent with your efforts, it’s not that tough to make a shift. Many employees had made a switch to product-based companies in less than one or two years. The interview process for Software Development Engineers at product-based companies (Depending on the company and experience you’re applying; the interview procedure could be a little different): Resume Shortlisting – A resume plays a crucial role in getting the interview call. As many candidates apply for the same job, you must have something in your resume which helps you stand out. It could be your projects, previous experience, or high rating on coding platforms. https://preview.redd.it/fy190btcvrqa1.png?width=602&format=png&auto=webp&s=b6e87da0f102cc8785331ab3e4182c44d687affa Online Coding Round – Questions related to basic aptitude, technical subjects, and coding questions. This round might not be included in the interview process of experienced professionals. Technical Interviews – Be prepared to the questions related to data structures and algorithms, core technical subjects, previous experience, and side projects. Design Round – Questions related to OOPs concept and system design. This round might not be included in the interview process of freshers. Behavioral Round – In-depth discussion of projects, theoretical technical concepts, your strengths, and weaknesses. Resume Building These are some things that should be on your resume to improve your chances of being shortlisted: Add pertinent tasks and duties in your industrial experience. Try to describe what you did, how you accomplished it, and the results. Education - Name the college you attended and the year you graduated. Leave out the school's name or a bad CGPA. Personal Projects - List your two or three most important, original projects that you are fully familiar with. Be ready for inquiries like, "Why did you decide to construct the project using this tech stack?" Programming Languages - List the programming languages you've used and your level of experience. You can use words like proficient, prior, intermediate, or expert to describe experience level. Achievements - Include accomplishments that are relevant to the abilities needed for a position. Don't go over into non-technical areas to include interests or accomplishments. Provide the number of competitors if you claim to have placed first in a competition. Profile - Add GitHub, Linkedin, and coding profiles in your list of profiles (Including the highest rating you have on these sites). If you post technical content on your blog sites or YouTube channel, you may also incorporate those. https://preview.redd.it/xgzog0rdvrqa1.png?width=602&format=png&auto=webp&s=2ec1fbb1c5116cf2a85dad4fcb3b1206c3a140a3 Coursework - Put topics here such as computer networks, database management systems, and operating systems. How to prepare for product-based companies? Preparing for product-based companies requires a multi-pronged approach that involves a combination of technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and good communication skills. Here are some steps you can take to prepare for product-based companies: Focus on your technical skills - Develop a strong understanding of computer science fundamentals, algorithms, data structures, programming languages, and databases. Practice coding regularly and participate in coding challenges and hackathons. Work on problem-solving skills - Product-based companies value employees who can solve complex problems efficiently. DSA Foundations is one of the most important topics in Data Structures and Algorithms. You should learn how to calculate the time and space complexity of a solution. Many people avoid this step and face difficulty in optimizing their solutions. Also, learn how to think and code recursively as recursion is a concept used in many algorithms and with almost all major data structures. Divide and Conquer is the next topic that you should learn next after recursion. Practice questions that require you to use recursion and divide and conquer. Work on improving your problem-solving skills by joining courses like Coursera, Coding Ninjas, Udemy or courses like Logicmojo which are very friendly for working employees. Start practicing on different platforms such as LeetCode, HackerRank, and Codeforces. https://preview.redd.it/nm8830ofvrqa1.png?width=602&format=png&auto=webp&s=d0cd75c641004ba9af4987db21ecc97ae3b88dda Gain practical experience - Build projects or contribute to open-source projects that demonstrate your practical knowledge and skills. This will help you stand out from other candidates and show that you have hands-on experience in building real-world applications. Stay up-to-date with industry trends - Keep yourself updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and innovations. Read blogs, attend conferences, and participate in online communities to stay ahead of the curve. Improve communication skills - Good communication skills are essential in product-based companies. Practice your communication skills by participating in group discussions, debates, and presentations. Prepare for technical interviews - Technical interviews are a crucial part of the recruitment process for product-based companies. Practice coding and problem-solving under pressure, and prepare for common interview questions by researching the company's values, culture, and products. Start Applying In parallel with the previous step, begin applying. Seek for recommendations through your networks or on LinkedIn. Also, you can search for opportunities on well-known job boards or on corporate career pages. Finding the email addresses of recruiters (in the case of large corporations) and founders (in the case of startups) and sending them a cold email with your application is another successful strategy. Joining institutes like Logicmojo can be beneficial in these cases as well, since they provide job support and have a great network of alumni. Thanks for reading and all the best. submitted by vinit__singh to CodingInterviewHelp [link] [comments] |

2023.03.30 02:30 g00gleg00n Provisionally passed at 175!!! My CISSP journey.
Apologies in advance if this is long winded...;)
Provisionally passed this afternoon going the 175 question distance. Still can't believe it and am glad I finally can have a night of not thinking about which domain I am in weak in that I will tackle to study next lol. First and foremost would like to thank everyone that contributes on this sub for the incredible resources and continued motivation. Definitely would have quit a long time ago if not for this group right here!
About exam: I read a success story couple nights ago here... and I can confirm that feeling of (there is no way I am passing this) came over me at several times during the exam. I focused very hard on the first 20-30 questions and then got into the flow of what exam was throwing at me. I read and re-read each question several times before looking at answers. I think this really helped me this time as the reading comprehension part was CRITICAL to finding the BEST answer. For most part I could narrow most down to 1 or 2. Like others have said.. the exam is not like any study question banks and just something of a different beast. Understanding CIA in the big picture conceptually is critical imo.
My background:
20+ years in IT total. Started as web app developer early in IT career and last 15 years working as Sr. VMWare engineeISSO for a federal agency.
Bachelors degree from (20+ years ago) in MIS. Graduate certificate in Information Assurance completed last May 2022. Finally got the courage and motivation to get this certification done. I have several other VMware (VCP) certs, but nothing security wise until now.
Paying my experience forward here and hopefully this can help someone out for CISSP cert motivation purposes. *This was my second exam attempt today (bought the peace of mind last December)*
Study resources I used and ranked below (only my opinion): - OSG (Sybex) - 9th Edition - (Gives you access to Wiley online and did all questions and (4) practice exams.) - 10/10. \Even though OSG is dry ... I read through all of it at least once and finished all end of chapter practice questions. Can't go wrong here imo as its the official guide.* Also listened to Mike Chappell audio version of the end of chapter exam objectives which was very helpful. (Can get the audio with the Wiley Online question/exam bank with book purchase.)*
- LearnZApp - 1 month subscription - Wonderful for overall question formats and finding weaker domain areas and extremely easy way to track your progress anywhere you go etc. Worked through 2,200+ questions for all 8 domains. Closest to exam format questions imo and is nice to have the mapped domain objectives for each question below each one for further references on incorrect answers. - 10/10
- How to think like a manager for the CISSP - Luke Ahmed - (Great for the manager mindset). - 10/10.
- Pete Zerger Full Course Exam Cram: 2022 Edition YT vid. - Watched over and over and listened to while working out and in the car. - 10/10
- Destination Certification YT channel - Mindmap and Questions playlist - 9/10
- Destination CISSP - A Concise Guide - Purchased and read via Amazon Kindle - 10/10. Purchased this late in the game to search through and mapped exactly to ISC2 exam objectives and was incredibly easy to search through. Wish I had this earlier honestly. Great descriptions and diagrams of concepts and helped me greatly for conceptually seeing how all domains and CIA fit and map together (at least for me). *Lets give it a 11/10. Loved this resource.
- Why you will pass the CISSP exam - YT video - Kelly H. - Great for mindset prior to exam. Listened right before exam. (All of what she says is so true and being a technical guy...this was exactly what I needed prior to exam for the right mindset.) - 9/10
- Boson - Purchased for $99 - Great explanations and ways to find weaker domain areas. Very technical and as a sysadmin it actually helped me with a few concepts/approaches I never actually thought about lol, but worth it for deep down study and the why of answers. Great for additional deep dives in areas you may be weaker technically although would not spend a ton of time here as in the weeds. With that said I did all 4 exams and went through 700 questions here. - 9/10.
- Prabh Nair Coffee Shots: - 9/10. Great resource for how to deconstruct questions and get in right mindset for how to answer exam questions. - 9/10.
- Sunflower CISSP notes/study guide and Reddit CISSP cheatsheet. - Used this a little, but not much. Good resource though for sure. - 7/10
- LinkedIn - Mike Chapple - CISSP Prep (Did not go through it all, picked and chose topics). 7/10.
- 2023 CISSP Tips Internetwork Defense with Larry Greenblatt: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HrdNCTA7n6Q - Scanned a few times and did not finish so can't really give complete ranking. - 6/10.
Thanks again to everyone on this sub! Do the work and it pays off!!

2023.03.30 02:30 kytulu Snapped a tool in half today (cross post from r/fordedge
Snapped a tool in half today...
2008 Edge with 150K on the odometer. Water pump went out a couple weeks ago, and finally got started on the repair.
I do 87% of my own maintenence on my vehicles, from simple stuff like oil changes and brakes to more complex stuff like replacing major components, wire repair, etc. I have a 3-tier toolbox filled with all kinds of tools for automotive maintenance...think Shadetree+.
Watched some YouTube videos on how to replace the water pump and timing chain, and while it looked complex, it did not look impossible. I budgeted 2 to 4 days to complete. It took about 3 hours to remove the intake manifold, valve covers, disconnect the wiring harness, remove the coolant reservoir, remove the belts, and remove the left front wheel and fender liner. Everything was proceeding to plan...
...until it came time to disconnect the power steering pump from the timing chain cover.
Why?! Just fucking why, Ford, did anyone think that bolting the PSP to the timing cover was a good idea? There is almost no fucking room to get to the bolts with the engine in the car. Removing the engine takes a whole extra day, because I don't have a lift, so I would have to remove the entire front end to pull the engine from the top.
Fortunately, I happen to have a 10mm flexible head ratcheting wrench. That worked for the one bolt that you can actually see. For the other bolt that you have to get from the bottom...not so much. The bolt would not budge. I tried the "lock another box end wrench onto the end of the 1st wrench to get more leverage" trick. I tried Deep Creep. Finally, I tried the 10mm socket, u-joint, short extension, long extension, ratchet trick.
I felt a pop, which felt like the usual "bolt has broken free of the torque" release. Sadly, it was not. The pop was the drive end of the short extension twisting 90% of the way off of the rest of the extension. My friends, I have broken tools before. Pliers, diagonal cutters, ratcheting mechanism in a wrench, connecting pin in a u-joint...I have never, in my life, broken a solid chromium molybdenum/vanadium extension. I didn't believe it was possible.
That was the point at which I threw in the towel and called a shop for a quote.
I hope to meet the engineer that designed this engine, and the application in this platform, so I can kick him as hard as I can in the junk with steel-toed boots!

2023.03.30 02:29 RedRapture781 Vanilla: Crossbows and Archer should be two separate Troop preferences. Yay or nay?
My little Warband probably helps with this formation specification but im still on console. I have sharpshooters and heroes in my ranks so how do make two consistently seperate the two so I can have a large group of fian champions and heroes March with infantry and Calvary while I have duel, small contingents of sharpshooters on both flanks and behind ready to ambush after I make a feined retreat?
I’ve really been trying to just use 200 elites cuz of my own party to take on larger enemy troop numbers by being able to choose my battle grounds and kinda of get some viable guerilla tactics going. So far I’ve been successful three times against a 400+ enemy army as long as I am able to choose the high ground, worded areas and villages to keep from being steamrolled by Calvary. (I can’t quite customize my formations with click and drag except before the fight starts either).
Strat Gaming is a excellent YouTube source but I’m asking the community.
Also I think every troop type (Calvary infantry and ranged) should have duel preferences like Calvary has Calvary archers and Calvary melee. Just so every base is covered for formation specifics. Maybe add another banner slot for companions and the main player so we can use “pike banner” or “archery only” banner with formation captains so all my troops can be placed surgically.
(Btw I just commend Tale Worlds cuz porting this to a gaming pad must have been a nightmare 🤣)
There is no going back. Bannerlord is the only game I want to play in 2023. I’ll never finish God of War, play another Cod match (im embarrassed to even admit that I’ve played cod In 2023 🤣) Harry Who? The Last of What? Cyberpunk When? Elden Ring can stick around…

2023.03.30 02:28 kytulu Snapped a tool in half today...

2023.03.30 02:25 gollumsPRagent Do you think about the vastness of the universe every day ?
Ever since I've watched that video called "Timelapse of the future" (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uD4izuDMUQA&t=108s&ab_channel=melodysheep), which I find fascinating, I've been thinking almost every day about how dizzyingly amazing it is that we know so little about why we're here (scientifically, I mean no disrespect to people who believe in one or multiple gods but I'm posting this on the basis that science hasn't told us the meaning of life yet or rather confirmed that there is one to begin with). I think about how my life is so small and that so much will happen after we're all gone and our planet is gone.
I'm agnostic but pretty much convinced my conscience will shut off like a broken computer once I'm dead so I'm not dizzy about me no longer existing because I know I won't experience that non-existence, but more amazed about the fact that there will be so much "nothing" and perhaps an infinity of nothing once the earth is gone, not to mention the countless universes and galaxies in which even more nothing (or something, more frighteningly or amazingly so) is happening.
And when I say dizzy, I mean that it's more in a positive than negative way, it doesn't make me sad but rather euphoric. I find it mind-boggling and it has brought me to think of it almost every day, to a healthy extent. I still go about my small life and give importance to what happens in it, but I can't help but think about how wild it is that most people don't think about space every day. Do you ?
