2023.06.03 11:44 Suspicious_Respond34 Is this PC build enough/good??

Hello everyone! I plan on buying this build to use mostly for autocad and gaming but I'm on a tight budget. This would be my first PC and I've already been researching about PC parts for a month and this is the parts that I plan to purchase.
Processor: Ryzen 5 5600 (I chose this processor because many users had great experience with it. I would've chosen the ryzen 7 5700x but I'm on a tight budget and people said r5 5600 is good enough.)
Motherboard: MSI B550M PRO-VDH WIFI
Memory: T-Force Delta RGB 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3600mhz CL18 (White) (I would've gone with tforce dark za but I would like my PC to be mostly white and to have some RGB lightings)
GPU: Galax RTX 3060Ti (1Click OC) 8GB GDDR6 (I saw some recommendations that AMD RX 6700 XT is one of the best GPU as of now but the pricing of that GPU is still above 25k pesos here in the Philippines while some are already 21k below outside of PH. I am really on a tight budget so I chose this and it's one of the cheap 3060 ti and users also had good experience with this galax 3060 ti)
SSD: Crucial P3 Plus 500GB Gen4 M.2 NVMe SSD
PSU: Cooler Master MWE V2 750W BRONZE
Casing: Tecware Forge S OMNI (White) (w/ 4x P12 ARGB Fans)
For the monitor, I would love it if you guys can recommend a curved monitor that is around 9k-11k pesos. At the moment, I'm still stuck between a IPS or VA monitor. Majority said that IPS is a lot better but I personally want a curved monitor.
Any comments, tips, amd recommendations would be appreciated! Thank you in advance!

2023.06.03 06:29 eplinx 22 year old saving for retirement and potential grad school. Can I have it all or am I being naive?

Hi. I am a recent finance grad currently working in consulting at an HCOL area. I just started working 2 months ago. Here is my current financial profile
Goals
#1. Probably my longest term goal is to retire around 50-55. I don't want to completely retire but able to take my feet off the gas pedal (work less than 40hrs a week) around that time would be nice. My number would be around $1.7m-$2m.
#2. My immediate short term goal is to attend grad school 3-4 years down the road. While I did study finance, my true interests lie in international relations which I plan to get a masters in. I want to combine my interests in both finance and IR and work in the development finance space. My top options just tuition wise cost around ~$110k ($55k/yr for 2 years) in tuition only (ouch). I plan on having at least $60k-$70k saved up. While not guaranteed, one of my top options is generous with aid so may get minimum $20k/yr if i build up strong work experience plus test scores. If push comes to shove, my parents are willing to loan me for some of costs w/ 0 interest. I'm willing to loan a max $50k for this.
Questions
Are these goals compatible? If not, how can I make it compatible?
While I have ran the numbers and built in different scenarios in a retirement model (being a finance major really makes you neurotic lol) it sorta works out. Would like to hear your thoughts though
How do you reconcile a financial decision that may not make sense w/ roi but gives personal fulfillment?
I was originally going to study IR in college but my parents talked me out of it and told me to get a more practical major. While I am glad they did that, I truly want to pursue my true passion which is IR and combine it with what i studied. After doing some research, starting salaries in development finance is roughly the salary I have currently. However, I feel as if i do not pursue this, I'll end up regretting it in the long term but the thought of shelling out a pretty penny for this unnerves me at the same time.
Thanks for reading this long text and your thoughts!

2023.06.03 02:53 Fine-Historian4018 Stay, sell, or keep as a rental property?

I live in a single family home we bought for around 220k in 2019 and is now worth about 300k. Don’t really like the area (relatively safe and good schools just not ideal) and it’s a 30 minute commute to where wife and I work (same employer). We just bought it as a conservative buy on a 15 year mortgage and refinanced at 2.5%. Mortgage all-in is about $1,600.
Take home for family is like 9k monthly (after taxes and retirement). We are in our mid 30s with kids. Savings for down payment is only like 25k because we are currently putting like 50k a year in retirement.
The town we want to move to is more like 500k-600k for a similar home but we could walk to work. I just got a quote for about 3,900 mortgage payment for new home since rates are much higher but I fear it would eat into our high savings rate for retirement/early retirement. But I’m also worried our home won’t appreciate in value as fast as other areas (like the new home) so we will be stuck.
If you were me, would you…
(1) Stay and pay off the current home (12 years left). Of the 1600 monthly payment, 1k+goes to principal. Paid in full 2035.
(2) Buy the new home and try to rent the current home. Probably could get around 2k month in rent. Mortgage all-in is about 1,600.
(3) Sell the current home for a bigger down payment on new home and not have the hassle of renting. Not really into this option since we have such a great rate and principal build up.
(4) Another option?
What would you do? I’m leaning towards option 1. But then maybe it’s just earlier retirement and dealing with the location and commute for the foreseeable future.

2023.06.03 02:31 Sedu Question about GPT pricing per token

My question is about the pricing scale found here:
https://openai.com/pricing
The pricing scale is per 1k tokens, but how are the tokens counted? For example, if I sent a prompt with a context that was 9k tokens, and prompt that was 1k tokens, and received a response that was 1k tokens, would I only be charged for the prompt tokens and the response tokens?
I have been using GPT 3.5 via the API for a while now, and what I have been doing is creating long message chains from the USER role which build rules for GPT. The last message is always an actual instruction that requires a response.
Would only the last USER role message be treated as the prompt, with the rest being context? From the pricing guide, it seems like context has no inherent cost, and I want to make sure that I'm not going to be burning through a bunch of money if every USER message counts as a prompt individually.
Thanks for any advice here.

Any suggestions for my MCII-a build?
It has very good heat management, the timeout gives it time to cool on chainfire.
I was considering a ERPPC either in the arm or core for one of the large pulses. What are the pros and cons for the location?
How would you improve this build, considering I am new. I used to play MW2 when it was current.

2023.06.03 00:04 DeadInMyCar Yellow/Red Light issues on new x670-p wifi board on boot, yellow on sleep

Hello,
I'm having trouble with my new PC. Every few boots, I get red and yellow lights on my motherboard, and I have to clear the CMOS or to hold power button without anything plugged for 30 sec and then start it.
Here's what happened: After building the PC, it posted and I entered the BIOS. But when I shut it down to install Windows, I couldn't get past the permanent red and yellow lights. No BIOS, no text, just a black screen and it happened on 3+ tries first time it happened i waited 20+ minutes.
I manually flashed the BIOS to the latest version, and it worked once, but the problem returned after shutting down. I had to short circuit and clear CMOS to install Windows.
After installing windows i don't get the red+yellow as often as without OS but still do from time to time. But when my PC goes to sleep, I get a yellow light (DRAM issue) and have to shut down the computer and start it again.
I tried using XMP for my RAM, but it failed to post, so i cleared CMOS and left the BIOS settings at default. I even bought new sticks of ram RAM, same model, same issue. They are supported by the board from what ive seen.
Despite these booting problems, gaming performance is great (Diablo 4, GTA V, MW2).
But the issue persists: red/yellow lights during boot quite often, PC not posting, and the need to clear CMOS.
Any ideas on what might be causing this
I do not think it's the RAM because i bought two new sticks of the same model
SKU: CMK32GX5M2B5600C36
Also this is my second time writing this post. The first time while i was editing it i got my first Blue Screen on this pc. Only firefox open.
Thanks, i would really appreciate some help!

2023.06.02 07:49 alleecmo Is 75% down the "new customary" for contractors?!?

My nearly-80 y/o MIL needs new flooring. The contractor is asking for 75% down. She almost signed, then called me. She has a history of being quite a pushover, which she is trying to change. We just dropped $38K on our yard last fall (and it is lovely!), and only put 50% down.
My experience, as well as posts I've seen here and per other resources, is that 50% down has always been the customary standard. It's enough to get materials, or pay labor if the contractor is using a line of credit with their supplier for materials. But it's not so much that the contractor might think they can "back-burner" your project often or otherwise delay finishing (or Heaven forbid, just skip out) since they already have a nice chunk of change.
She's looking at a $12K job, so $9K is a LOT. I know prices have risen, but that should be reflected in the total.
Are they trying to take advantage of a little old lady? Will her contractor balk at a counter-offer of 50% down? Is this materials dependent? She has chosen Luxury Vinyl Plank, if that matters.
EDIT: THANK YOU everyone who has shared insight & a few horror stories! I have shared your collective wisdom with Mom & she sees that she needs to drop this guy like a hot rock. She's also gonna (finally) get several quotes, plus explore a few other materials options.
LVP might be right for her, but the sales guy was very smoothly pushing it to the exclusion of all else. This despite my insistence on considering other (frankly more sustainable eco-friendly) options like bamboo or cork -- I hate plastic building materials. VOCs, fire gasses, environmentally awful. Coordination with her existing trim work matters lots to her; she's super visual. All the samples Mr 75% steered her towards had grey tones, while her home has warmer honey tones; could just be what mfgrs are making since greys are hella popular now. (Yet another point in favor of natural materials, as they are stainable to match). But she wasn't in love with what was on offer. (Yet another reason to keep looking till something specific grabs her!)
Thanks again y'all! šŸŖšŸ©šŸŖšŸ©šŸŖšŸ©šŸŖšŸ©šŸŖ Cookies and doughnuts all around!

2023.06.02 05:02 Tucanonerd CLARIFICATION TIME:

Because we are seeing a bunch of posts from the salt mines, specially being taken out of context, here are a few things to help clear up some discussions I am seeing going around.
"WREL'S LAST MESSAGE TO THE COMMUNITY"
Edit: there was a post a few hours ago (now gone) with the above title, followed by the clip without context of Wrel saying ā€œsuck my nutsā€¦ā€ and a lot of people without any context or more informations were thinking he really said that before leaving. Following is the real context of that clip…
If I got a cert for every time I've seen this taken out of context, I could unlock all of the implants in the game.
I am OrbiManager from SKL by the way, the one hosting the interview bellow. This happened in 2021, after the charity campaign for the EXTRA LIFE fundraiser that SKL ran on that year. Our outfit raised over 9k dollars on that year, and Wrel had agreed to run with us leading a platoon and do an interview with questions from the SKL community at the time. It was an incredibly light hearted event, where we actually WON the alert with Wrel leading us, followed by an amazinginterview.
https://clips.twitch.tv/DarkEnticingCaterpillarSoBayed-IBFW_qwF4xF98kw4
If you would like to sit through the entire thing, it is 1 hour and a half, and HERE IT IS.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQ5qZLxf0A8
The questions are all time stamped in the description, and the famous "quote" happens at the 48:25 minutes mark. The question was: "How do you keep yourself motivated/professional when you and the team receive salt and toxic behavior?". A question directly pointed at the people that on a regular basis harassed Wrel and the team, with common gentle remarks that I can't even type without getting this post banned. Not criticism mind you...
So if you care about getting an actual idea of Wrel, feel free to chek the interview.
NOW ABOUT THE SECRET CABAL DISCUSSION...
There have been multiple closed testing and discussion groups through the years. Very few people, on VERY FEW OPORTUNITIES, got a chance to interact directly with Wrel and the team. I myself had the pleasure of being included in the Oshur playtest. A private discord, just as described with the Vehicle Changes one, where a few handpicked players from several different backgrounds were brought to provide feedback on the content being developed. Both on this ocasion and on SEVERAL others, I've had the chance to speak directly to Wrel, both about game changes and the community, and the tone was always incredibly professional and calm. I was even the one who made a strong argument about increasing the number of bases on Oshur for the map to be viable for alerts, and pointed out that the unfinished interior design on the buildings with the grass and folliage growing throught the floor made it look like it was abandoned and overgrown, and could be overlooked for time. I made other points that couldn't be adressed, like complaining about the elevation of the islands, and pointing out that the map was too railroaded, but even without those changes the experience was incredibly positive, and the conversations were polite and productive. Some things simply couldn't have been changed with the time and resources they had. Whenever anything like this happened, there were no NDAs, but it was clearly stated that the discussions were to be kept private and civil. The fact that this leak even happened in the first place, is another stain that helped push the devs and the community even more apart. From everything I've seen and heard, when presented with a golden oportunity of contact with the team, Wrel himself was enthusiastic about the changes, and proceeded to have private discussions leaked and such unhinged arguments with the group to the point where it got heated.
I don't know if this is just me. But sharing PRIVATE DISCUSSIONS, without someone's permission is a plain straight jerk move. Not only the documents all those years ago, but 1 on 1 chat screenshots is just next level scummy. I am not really sure what was expected with this attempt to bait drama, but all it got from me, was even more dissapointment in this community.
Wrel was responsible for many game changes that were objectively bad. I hate Containment Sites to this day. CTF is the worst thing ever implemented. And despite KNOWING that Esamir HAD TO BE CHANGED because of the lobsided warpgates, I think the final design of the continent was far worse then the original in a micro scale.
But even with all that said. Wrel was the most passionate person this game ever had in it's leadership. Even god Higby, wasn't around for when things were really bad. People nowadays fail to understand how this game at one point had 2 active developers. They don't remember how we had 3 years before Escalation without a SINGLE CONTENT UPDATE. The biggest update we used to have before RPG were the anniversary bundles in the end of the year. And even more then this, people will never really know what happened behind the scenes after the failure of Planetside Arena. Carto talked about it. Andy talked about it. Only in hints. But the reality is, that Wrel confronted Daybreak and wrestled creative control of the game TO THE DEVELOPMENT TEAM. The Rogue Planet Games split, was VERY LIKELY cause by Wrel himself spitting the truth, that the publisher was running the game into the ground. ANd the reality that we all now know, of a game with a FUNCTIONAL LIVE SERVICE were all made possible because of him. There wasn't anybody else in the team. Wrel was deeply passionate about Planetside, and what this game could become . He saw the true potential and uniqueness of what we have here, and he decided to dedicate his sanity into trying to make it work. He did his best with the resources he had and failed several times. But pretending like he did more worse then good is just straight up bullshit.
There is no point in discussing it anymore I suppose. I am surprised the guy could take the stress for this long. Just goes to show how much he loved the game. The reality now, is that the motivation has left the PS2 team. He did what he could to leave the game in a good state, and hopefully we will have it for years to come. But let's stop with the lies and drama baiting without any logical sense. It's not good for anything...

2023.06.01 20:39 JustADotaGamer Casual player perspective: This patch just, really isn't fun

A low end player here (2.7k mmr) but I have around 4k hours and have enjoyed the game casually over the last decade. This entire patch, but specially 7.33c has personally been the worst patch in my Dota history.
This patch has matched me up with significantly more difficult opponents, even in unranked. Now I face ancient or legend players when I should be (and used to face) facing archon players. It has also done away with the traditional positions. There is no more "4" .. its just a core that doesn't get lane farm. Deathball at 15 minutes and you lose the game. Morphling 4? Cool he has Skadi at 20 minutes and its over. Magic build jugg? Who cares he has 9k games and a Dusa. They arent going to lose.
The game just feels like a turbo now, even when you are playing a normal game. It gets out of hand so fast, and on more than a few occasions the deathballing team absolutely refuses to push. 40k networth lead and they refuse to push tier 3s to "farm more" that has happened three times in the last week alone.
I am 2-24 in my last 26 games, by far the worst stretch ever in my playing career where I am a 51% WR player. Is anyone else experiencing difficulty with 7.33c?

Atx, I have the Dallas & Houston Microcenters both 3 hours away.
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
I have a Bluetooth headset and mouse, a wired mic and keyboard, and a second monitor I'll be using.
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
Interested in doing it down the line but would appreciate a build that doesn't need it for most games.
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
Just a 4090 and the 7900X3D or 7800X3D if it will help save money that can be used on other components.
What type of network connectivity do you need? (Wired and/or WiFi) If WiFi is needed and you would like to find the fastest match for your wireless router, please list any specifics.
Wired, WiFi, and Bluetooth.
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
Nothing huge but nothing too small. I hate seeing cramped PCs, especially with the 4090. So probably mid-tower to full-tower. Big fan of minimalist, clean, themed looks and I dislike a ton of RGB.
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
Yes Windows 11 Home (64-bit) via USB is the best and easiest I think.

Thank you guys so much, I can't wait to build it and post pics! :)
