2023.06.03 12:43 Entity904 World Building Post: The Enili Princedom

Enili is one of the largest southern princedoms, the strength of which is heavily reliant upon the support of the Kawriq Empire. It is ruled by a prince, currently Izevel, who is the head of the princedom senate, overseer of the court of judges, and possesses unquestionable executive power within the nation.
The soil there is of a bright orange to dark brown coloration. Alhough it does not hold many natural resources, it is a treasure in itself, fertile and capable of sustaining great forests and farmlands. Woodwork, harvested crops, livestock meats and furs, woven fabric, pottery and glass, as well as experienced professionals make up most of the country's exports. Metals, spices, alcohols, scrolls of papyrus and many other materials need to be purchased from merchants from the north, east, and west. The people of Enili commonly use clay tablets for writing and notation, but since the nation fell under the influence of the Kawriq Empire papyrus scrolls began to significantly gain on popularity.
The princedom does not possess a large army, and its city lacks in strategic defenses. However, it does maintain a fleet of over fifty state-owned ships to deal with pirates and perform escorts of important individuals and resources, while the city militia is numerous, well-trained, and well-equipped.
The City of Enili, located on the most eastern flank of the Kawriq civilization and easily accessible from land and sea by travelers and merchants from far away, has become a safe stop for those travelers. It allows them to rest in their journey, make repairs to their vessels and equipment, and resupply at a relatively cheap price. Many buildings at the center of the city were built out of white imported marble and sandstone, while on the outskirts wood and orange clay bricks are the most dominant materials.
The city has been expanding both in population and size at an unprecedented pace for the last few years, reaching no less than one hundred thousand citizens, about sixty thousand non-citizens (mostly immigrants from Kawriq, and people from the dry and hot north) and thirty thousand peasants with limited rights. To gain a citizenship and the benefits it grants one has to serve at least twenty four years in the city militia, navy or military (and half as much to become a half-citizen) or be born to a pair of citizens, or one citizen and one half-citizen. Half-citizens are effectively citizens who were born to pairs of a citizen and a non-citizen, however child of a pair of two half-citizens will always be a non-citizen. They can improve their status and become a full citizen by paying a half-citizen tax for twelve years and completing a written test of citizenship.
The city posses a primitive, mostly covered sewage system, making it suprisingly clean and pleasant-smelling for its size.
The faith of the feathered twins has recently become the main religion, and while the cults of most of the lesser gods have died out or been nearly completely abandoned, however their statues and symbols are still understood to attract good spirits. They are still actively prayed to, but more as a group. Those relics of the past can often be seen in public meeting areas and households, bringing luck to the citizens. Similarly, the fossils and bones of long-dead animals have always been understood to protect from tge evil spirits, the fuller and more accurately articulated the skeleton, the better. In accordance with the dominant Enili philosophy known as the "palace of the higher needs," no temples or ancient statues were purposefully demolished. Instead, they were repurposed to serve the feathered twins. The religious conversion was mostly swift and bloodless, thanks to countless public speeches by philosophers, government officials, and public representatives, as well as successful negotiations between interested parties.
There are many skilled craftsmen living within Enili, purchasing raw resources from merchants and selling finished products with profit. Many private, priesthood-owned and state-owned schools exist there, the most well known of which is the Enili School of Craftsmanship and Philosophy, located in a repurposed ancient temple on the western bank of the river Izu. According to many the Enili School represents the highest standard of education in all southern princedoms. A large population of alchemists lives in the eastern part of the city, producing and selling a great number of elixirs of questionable effectiveness, though there are many things they produce that have been proven to function as intended, coloured glass being one of them. The woodwork sector is also strong within the city, producing great art, furniture, and sturdy ships of the Enili pattern. Many poets, artists, sculptors, architects, engineers, and philosophers also live within the city, and their works are the pride of Enili people.
The coinage there is somewhat unusual. The "unicorns" are the very recently introduced coins of the highest value. They are round, made of platinum and iron, and bear the image of the creature on one side and the stylized profile carving of Izevel on the other. They are worth one thousand of the golden coins each. The "envoys" are the second most valuable coin, made of gold, square, and with a hole at the center. They bear the image of two envoy birds on one side and the ruler of the Kawriq Empire on the other. There is also another, older version of this coin still in use called "phoenixes," which has the image of a phoenix on one side and the likeness of either Izevel, Izevel's father, or another old ruler on the other. Each golden coin is worth twelve silver coins. The triangular silver "altars," each with a hole in the middle, bear the images of a fish, a crowhorse, and wheat, respectively in each of the corners, and the panorama of Enili on the other side. Each silver coin is worth twelve of the round coloured glass coins, known as "tokens", which can bear a great variety of state-mandated symbols, and are mostly orange in coloration.
The Morning Mountains Colony is a territory aquired relatively recently by the Princedom of Enili by a threat of force and exchange of many coins. It's a small but growing city located near the source of river Izu, counting around ten thousand non-citizens in population. It is ruled by a council made up of its inhabitants and a governor from the City of Enili. The Colony is relatively prosperous and content with it's current political situation. Trade has significantly increased since it joined the princedom, living conditions have improved and a few schools and roads have been built. It's better fortified than the City of Enili, with a steep cliff protecting it from one side and a palisade from the other. The Colony possesses a military force counting around one hundred armored envoy riders, three hundred crowhorse-riding archers, three hundred infantry and ten ships. The purpose of this very expansive force (maintained mostly from the taxes of the citizens of the City of Enili) is to protect the trade routes, eliminate bandits, maintain peace and protect the north of the Princedom of Enili.

2023.06.03 12:43 TheChumscrubber123 6.02.23 - TF = big hard, big sad sometime. big hard+sad = big(gest) love, big(gest) wow rewards

This is even harder than I expected. TF journey really is something else.... I still stand by strong assertion that it is still the most fantastic blessing one could hope for. It's definitely very challenging, but the path to Heaven/enlightenment (for everyone) is through the flames. You can't go up without first going down (no rebirth without the death). Every soul will have to do this eventually. And TFs just massively, massively accelerate that process. Meaning, it's more difficult and hurts more initially, but you make it through the flames of suffering far quicker and reach much higher states of consciousness and vibration much sooner.
My own journey is evidence of that. I was broken many times by you and endured unbearable heartbreak and blah blah. I also had massive flare-ups of my shadow in the beginning. But because of that, instead of taking decades to progress a few steps, I shot up to this extremely high and rare state of consciousness/awakening at break-neck, unheard of speeds. Just 4 years into this journey and I can already say all the suffering and difficulties were totally worth it to have reached the state I'm at now. And because of that, I'm extremely grateful for every moment of it.
tldr; TF = Hard mode. Hard mode = 100x exp

I wasn't allowed to join your stream today. And it hurt. I first hesitated because of how you reacted to me in stream yesterday. It seemed like you wanted space from me, so I wanted to give you that. But I wanted HS to make the decision. And then a bunch of things started arising to heal. Fear of rejection. Rejection from literally anyone else in the world is so easy to brush off, so I wouldn't really fear anyone else. But with you, there's that otherwordly soul connection that brings the deepest and strangest connection I've ever felt with anyone. Rejection from you isn't something I can just brush off. I know it will hurt. Which is fine, because it's always just another opportunity to heal a samskara. But it's never fun and stings everytime I even get a hint of it from you. It makes me feel like such a baby, but again, this only happens with you. And the great news is each time this happens, I remove another layer of that negative emotion permanently from my system--though there will likely be many more layers to go lol.
Once much of that fear was transmuted, and I thought I might be ready to connect, the intense soul longing for you arose. And then frustration for this complicated situation that we're in and the inability to just connect with you normally and not just in this weird, superficial way through a public gaming streaming platform. And then hopelessness of feeling like this is pointless and I'm not gonna be able to form a deep/meaningful connection with you given the extreme limitations of our communication, and that this is probably just going to end up the same way, with me falling back into chasing you and you continuing to cling to Ethan, and then HS pulling the plug and forcing me to walk away for good.
But then I snapped out of it. While describing this sounds like I was in some debby downward emo spiral, these kinds of thoughts don't last very long before I recognize that I'm caught in ego consciousness and "wake up" again. Then the thoughts fall away, I go into higher consciousness and begin transmuting. The thoughts aren't ever able to drag me down to really low/negative states. It's just in this case, so many different things kept arising one after the other. While unpleasant, this was still pretty manageable. But then that intense soul longing and sorrow came up, and that was a tough one.
Normally when negative emotions arise, I am able to transmute them fairly quickly. But the soul longing/sorrow that arose today was a huge one. My soul was in such desperate, intense longing for your soul. Wave after wave after wave kept arising, and I had to go lie in my bed and go into deep meditation for hours transmuting. It's the first time since HS awakening that something like this has happened and that I haven't been able to fairly quickly heal samskaras.
The thought did arise, "God, this sucks. I don't wanna do this anymore. I just wanna go back (run away) to my peaceful non-TF journey where things are so much easier and simpler...." That thought almost immediately was recognized as bullshit. Because that would imply abandonding my beloved to her Hellish fate, which I would never do so long as there's a chance of helping. And even on a selfish note, this is the crap that needs to come up to be healed because this is the crap that's keeping me from my bliss and ascension. So I'm very blessed to have this opportunity through our connection.

I also reminded myself that I shouldn't get attached to you or the idea of Union. This again is becoming more difficult as the soul love grows. But I need to stay open so I don't obstruct HS from acting through this person for our highest good. So I won't say, "I miss you, I'm sorry I couldn't spend time with you during your stream today, and I wish we could connect more." But I will say that I love you always.

2023.06.03 12:42 KeysAndGears Alter package reservation to new deal

I reserved a package (hotel, tickets, airport transportation) a while ago for our trip in September. Now there is a new deal online that is applicable to my stay that lets me save quite a bit of $$ for exactly the same deal.
I am from Europe so it is difficult for me to call the reservation line (very expensive). So I mailed to [email protected] 5 days ago but still no answer - I fear it might never come as they state they answer within 48h.
Is there a better address to mail, or an online way to adapt your reservation to a new deal? Any tips are welcome! 🙏

2023.06.03 12:41 coolnavigator Ramblings on Consciousness, Free Will, Trauma, Waking Up, Enlightenment

Ramifications of Plato's Cave

I think people have talked a lot about the nature of Plato's Cave and not enough about the ramifications of Plato's Cave.
If we are all stuck in a subjective view of the world, and we become illusioned by ourselves, and we rarely ever want to throw away this illusion (ie pursue enlightenment), what does that say about us?
We don't merely think in terms of narratives. We like narratives. We prefer the cave. We live our lives as though it were a narrative. We probably couldn't even stop this if we wanted to, to a certain extent.
What does it mean when we absorb this? What are we doing for ourselves at the point in time when we start thinking about these topics?
In short, we're unhappy with the narrative. It's literally like waking up from a nightmare. We're scared or upset about the nature of reality, so our goal is to recraft a new narrative that will put us back to sleep. That's the concept of "peace". That's the concept of "non-disturbance", which is something we've been chasing ever since we were born and wished to return to the womb, which was a period of forever sleep and forever peace.
All of the learning in the world starts with wanting to understand the world's parameters, so we can more effectively craft dreams for ourselves, so we can live out the narrative that will make us happy.
Neo in the Matrix is the "hacker" who wants to know deeply about the universe because he is someone who wants to craft the greatest dream of all, for himself and for his love (Trinity). Neo ends up sacrificing himself to save his love, which means he "dies" and so does the ever-present evidence of the Matrix existing (Agent Smith everywhere). This is again proof that he prefers the dream, although he also believes that he will one day overcome all of the ancient, deprecated "code" (memes, genes, traditions, culture, etc) inherent in human individuals and in human society.
This is representative of the mythology around christ consciousness. It is about sacrificing one's self for future reward, which comes in the form of a richer, more pleasurable, and more real story. Perhaps one in which we are all happier, healthier, and more prosperous. This is the summary of the entire mythos around Neo, Jesus, and many other individuals.
I think one of the main reasons old psychedelic aficionados will say "you didn't take enough" if you have a bad trip is that one of the main goals of trips is to remember why you went. Not just "what information are you trying to extract" from this trip, with altered consciousness, but why do you need this info? What are you really doing with your life?

Traumatic rituals

Another implication from this...
What is the purpose of traumatic rituals, perhaps some we might call satanic?
If we induce fear in someone, we can get them to keep waking up (not just in terms of sleep, but in terms of consciousness), and when they do that, they have a chance to advance themselves. It's totally abused though, and they aren't trying to create enlightened individuals so much as highly trained tools who can do things that ordinary sleepwalkers couldn't.

Sex Magick

This is related to operant conditioning. basically, the reward centers are so activated from sexual activity (or even masturbation) that it helps get you to agree and purify yourself before an idea.
Sexual activity puts you in a very suggestible and controllable state. If someone else is providing you with the sex and ideas at the same time, they can control you with this process. That being said, you can use sex to actually meditate and change your own mind as well, but this would not be broadly taught due to the inherent risk in doing so (only works as well as the individual makes good choices during it).
As I will get into later, the idea that thoughts and ideas are like lives, so the "lives" which learn to desire and crave sexuality find themselves to have complete and utter control over your body at times. The only way to cure such an addiction is to go around and exterminate these lives. It's not just about deciding to do it, nor is it about living in the vain belief you even do decide on a moment to moment basis what you do. You actually have to consciously do work to kill those devils. Also for this reason, sex magick is not widely taught.

Curiosity

There is this concept of simply "noticing the birds". Jesus was even quoted saying something along the lines of "make sure to smell the flowers".
Why though? We usually decipher this as just "enjoy your life" and don't think more about it. I have an alternative explanation.
Acts such as this are what keep you awake. They retain your consciousness. By continuing to be curious, your mind stays alive. And furthermore, it is the healthier alternative compared fear, which I said would keep you awake in a more nightmare-like state.

Waking up

As I said, we are all living out narratives. The question is, who is the narrator and the story planner? In a healthy, conscious adult, you are your own god. You are your own narrator and story planner. What does the entertainment/education/media complex attempt to do? It wishes to subvert your narrator and story planning, so that it is now in control, and you are merely observing something outside of yourself. This is mind control. Now, consciousness is always observing something, since it has a rather passive role in cognition, but the point is that it's no longer observing internal processes so much as an external "man behind the curtain", representative of all of entertainment/education/media available today. We do have a name for this complex. We call it "The Cathedral".
While it's certainly true that entertaining content has a market value, it's absolutely crucial for you to understand that The Cathedral is not an organic institution made up of profit seekers. The Cathedral is an ideological organization that is not concerned with making money. Why? The Cathedral is ran by the people who already own half the world. They run finance. They are the bankers. The purpose of the Cathedral is not to make profit, but to ensure their primary modes of business continue to profit them. It is disinformation. Yes, there are subcontractors who seek profit in the Cathedral complex, but these are not the people who run the system.
There are a ton of avenues for exploring this. We could talk about how old oil money was the primary means by which radio as a medium was researched in the early 1900s (The Radio Project, funded by Rockefellers). We could talk about how identity politics scarcely existed just 10-15 years ago, and when the Occupy Wall Street movement started gaining momentum, suddenly identity politics existed as a distraction from anything those nasty Wall St executives and their lackeys were doing. People seem to get angry because they think Disney is attempting to create a profit from selling the new Mermaid to a wider range of audiences than before, but they should be even more angry if they realize Disney ultimately doesn't care about making money from Mermaid. They simply are doing what they are told, to drum up conflict and loss of social cohesion, so that the real powerbrokers can operate unimpeded.
Yes, it is about money, but not necessary movie money. Not necessarily tech bro money either. Even Facebook showed up at the exact time that DARPA was shutting down an exploratory project called LifeLog that did the exact same thing. Did Zuckerberg "magically" pull himself up by his bootstraps, or was he connected like Bill Gates was connected, whose father was powerful in the intelligence community and who was a member of the early equivalent of the WEF dating back to the 1960s? Microsoft was a ploy for the government to have a backdoor into all computer systems. Facebook was a ploy for the government to have a backdoor into everyone's social lives. Google has become a ploy to control all searches (I have not found evidence to suggest it began this way though — not to say it doesn't exist).
You might ask yourself... Does it feel like something is missing in your life? Would you call it "meaning" or "spirit"? Is it possible you have lost communication with the center of yourself which has the answers for meaning and the feeling of spirit? And could this lost communication be due to the Cathedral's attacks on your mind?
The problem isn't necessarily waking up / not waking up. This is a false dichotomy. Simply change what you are dreaming about.
However, "waking up" could be considered an honorable task, since you are in effect becoming the lightbearer for everyone else. For that path, the most important thing to realize is that there are different reasons to wake up. It's really just like dreaming. You could wake up from a nightmare, or you could stay up all night out of curiosity for a thing that you just can't put down. "Waking up" out of fear isn't very productive (except insofar as you change your dreams, per my first point), but waking up out of curiosity and creativity is... simply world-changing.
Is that why they're banning books in Florida?
Which books are they banning? Those that serve curiosity, creativity, intelligence, and growth as a human being, or those that serve darker forces such as perverse sexuality?
People are equipped with limited options to fight the tyranny of the Cathedral. Book banning is a last ditch effort to stop the mind control put upon us.
Even if you don’t believe in conspiracy….. his words ring very very true
This is an interesting, albeit naive, place to be. You blame all bad things on the nature of people, rather than the actions of people.

Free Will

If we consider that language is composed of symbols, which indicate concepts, and that concepts seem to always be a compressed version of something that's beyond the logical mind's ordinary ability to work with, then it follows that free will is just such a symbol.
Further, our conceptual mind apparently gives all concepts their meaning by way of relating them to opposite symbols — e.g. free will has no conceptual usefulness in the absence of the concept of "fate" or "destiny", etc. I propose that neither free will nor destiny exist as anything other than concepts which aren't mapping the situation realistically.
Specifically they are symbols, and "we" exist within those symbols so long as there is an automatic assumption that if neither exists, something must take their place. If you tell someone they have free will, you automatically introduce the concept of destiny, and vice versa. If you tell someone who doesn't know themselves that they have free will, exactly who have you granted such "freedom" to?
All of these symbols are like "lives" themselves, and as long as they exist within us, they live and state their cases to be known. When you fully decide against something, you kill it within yourself. You kill the idea, which ends its life at least with you.
Consciousness isn't so much about "thinking" as it is deciding which lives to keep and which to kill. You're choosing which symbols to associate with. You're choosing which subconscious processes to follow.
That is perhaps the function of the thing we call free will. So in that sense, it's not so much that it is free will vs destiny, but it is this tiered concept of cognition. There are the "lives" existing within you, then there is the "god" who allows them to live or die.
This also frames the idea of destiny, which you might say is the assumption of a "life" within you existing forever. In other words, would it even be "your" destiny if parts of yourself could literally be created and destroyed? Perhaps we are like the ship of theseus in more ways than we realize. It's not even so much about destiny as it is the idea of object permanence or realism in the first place.
This description of symbols living within us is the concept of the noosphere, by the way. It's a "sphere" similar to a biosphere or ecosphere, which exists on top of conscious beings. There is our body (the hardware), then there is "the spirit" or whatever you want to call the "immaterial" (technically electrons are material but very hard to measure in large structures) resting on top of it, and the collection of all of these immaterial beings exist in the noosphere.

2023.06.03 12:41 LNGNTREE3GRAHAMRAYO No, a philosophical pessimist is not necessarily a hypocrite if they haven't k$lled themselves.

When the average human encounters any kind of information critical of the life endeavour, from philosophical pessimism to Efilism, they usually retort with a question: "If this is so, then why haven't you kill%d yourself?"
The average human is hereby triggered and in defense mode, because his house of cards is under attack. His position is one of naive optimism, and pro-life-ism. Some of these pro-lifers even go as far as to imply or outright tell the pessimist to k*ll themselves.
However, I take it that the majority of the time this question is instead an attempted reductio. Let's call this the hypocrisy objection, because it aims to point out a contradiction in the pessimist. It entails that if true, then either the pessimist is a true pessimist, in which case he is a hypocrite, or the pessimist does not believe what they say, in which case he is a liar.
However, the thing is that most of the time this objection simply fails to land. It can be for a variety of reasons, reasons that the pro-lifer almost always does not take into account.
First of all, whether the hypocrisy objection is successful or not, does not change the truth value of the pessimist philosophy. Therefore, this question is actually an inherent distraction. It is pure deflection. Also, even if the hypocrisy objection is true, and/or the pessimist is wrong, that does not imply that the pro-lifer's optimism and pro-life-ism is right by necessity.
Anyway, with that out of the way, I'd like to point out that whether the hypocrisy account is true or not very much depends on the pessimist making the argument. Specifically, their position. However that is not all that it depends on. It also depends on practical considerations.
First off, the pessimist is only a hypocrite if his position implies that he should k*ll himself. This may or may not be true. In the case of consequentialism, it tends not to be. The pessimist may actually be a great help in doing whatever it is that needs to be done to reduce net suffering. In that case, the pessimist might consistently reduce net suffering, and thus justify his life.
Another possibility is that the pessimist simply does not hold a position that has any implications for an individual. Only for acts that affect others. In that case, it may be that the individual has no obligation to do what is in their best-interest. This is not hypocritical because while the person holds that death is in their best interests, they do not hold that they ought to seek death. Thus, they can simply say "I prefer to live", and there would be no contradiction.
Another possibility is that the pessimist holds that the future will be much better than the present, and thinks that living will be a net good in utility because of radical technological advancements enhancing well-being for all sentient beings in some near future.
Yet another possibility is that the pessimist believes that death is a harm. They further believe that this harm is greater than the suffering that they will experience, because they happen to live a pleasant life.
And of course, there are also practical concerns. As we all know here, pro-lifers are absolutely rabid that nobody kll themselves(which can sometimes make this question from them bizarre). They fight tooth and nail to become the most effective tyrants possible in order to stifle pro-choice movements, and ban any easy(or hard), and effective(or even ineffective) suic%d methods possible. They actively ban and restrict until they can no more. They also send the state-sanctioned force to imprison those who might make the choice to e*d their lives. They also use countless manipulative tactics and propaganda to achieve their goals of a worldwide zero suicide rate, even while knowing that this is patently absurd. If they do have to cave in in cases where their position is increasingly revealed to be diabolical, and there is real pressure, then they allow the most miserable and ill people on the planet who were going to die in a few months anyway to leave in peace, and nobody else. If you're not terminally ill, or are "mentally ill", then tough luck!
So knowing this, it is obvious why even someone who does want to die, and does not have much to contribute in terms of reducing suffering, might not be a hypocrite; because they aren't allowed to make that choice by the very tyrants asking him that question.
Also, there is also the fact that some people live with their parents, or in a public space and have no privacy.
Then, of course, there is survival instinct, and overall phobias. They can make it nigh impossible or flat our impossible to go through with it even if you have the ideal method.
Taking all of this into account. The optimist is naive and wrong to think that they have this Universal gotcha to all of pessimism. It might work in some tiny amount of cases, but even then, it does not touch the truth of pessimism, nor the truth of optimism.

2023.06.03 12:40 coolnavigator Ramblings on Consciousness, Free Will, Trauma, Waking Up, Enlightenment

At wits end. I completely lost myself and I perpetually live in a completely zombified state.
"Worse before better" applies to a few lucky ones. I am done, cant go on forever waiting for something that will never come.
Also considered the med route again but in all honesty I want who I was before this, not something new nor a partial return of myself.
Hope theres something better after

2023.06.03 12:40 SnooDonuts3511 Should I move countries?

Hi all!
I’m a 32 year old guy who has lived in Dublin, Ireland almost all his adult life. I’m fond of the place but since college I’ve gone through phases of itchy feet. The thing is, I wound up missing the boat to move away in my 20s - first I decided to qualify as an accountant, telling myself I’d move after. After that I fell in love and she had stuff to do here, so I wound up staying again. Unfortunately neither of those things wound up working out. And then of course, the pandemic hit!
I’m doing better generally now. I’ve gotten out of accounting and I work in libraries. I have a community, do comedy, and I get to write (which I always dreamed of doing). But I’ve got itchy feet again. I feel like I gave my 20s to the corporate world and it just made me miserable, so whatever I do with the rest of my life I want it to be different, ideally creative.
I’m in a really fortunate place in that I own my apartment in Dublin, so I’m thinking about maybe renting it out and getting away from here for a couple years to have some different experiences, meet some new people, hopefully keep writing and performing. I don’t ever plan to have kids, so I’m hoping that gives me a certain amount of leeway in terms of finances / the ticking clock. But I’m dithering.
Ideally I’d like to go to a big cultural center. I like big cities, but the US immigration process is bonkers so that’s out. I do sometimes think about London, but I don’t hear great things in terms of cost. Also it seems to have taken a bit of a hit since Brexit? The other places I’m currently considering are Berlin and Edinburgh.
If anyone has any thoughts or experiences with any of these places I’d love to hear them! Or just advice generally. I realise I may come off a bit naive or a dreamer in this, but I just feel stuck and I need to do something.
Thanks a mil!

2023.06.03 12:39 Sudden-Train7163 Should I go no contact with my family

Sorry for any format issues on mobile. Throwaway account. So I have a family that was very abusive to me before I moved out. I didn't have stable housing for a while as my father keeps kicking me out as well as a mother who would nit stop him when he would put hands on me. My father has not laid hands on me since I was 16 I'm 24 now. He stole 70k from my college fund and refuses to pay me back. I moved out and our relationship got a lot better.
However I'm growing more and more tired of my family not just my parents either. A week before my wedding I received a phone call from my sister in which she claimed her husband was joking with her about not wanting to come to my wedding to which I replied he does not need to come if that's how he feels and she claimed she was messing with me but it's a weird way to mess with me. Now me and her husband have never gotten along but I thought our relationship was improving however I recently realized he's been making a lot of nasty comments about me behind my back and even did so to my best friend at my wedding.
Additionally I asked my father not to speak at my wedding and he ambushed me with a speech anyway afteri told me no less than 20 times I didn't want that and when confronted with rhe fact I didn't want this speech he told me I was over reacting as it was a toast but I really don't see the difference. Him and my mother attempted to lecture me in front of my in laws over a joke a made that was clearly a joke. And my father yelled at me on my wedding day for making funny faces at my husband and told me I needed to behave. He also spent the entire evening talking about my sister and brother in law and I truly didn't feel like he even cared it was my wedding. All My friends said he was rude and dismissive to them when he spoke with them. And I have spoken with him about his behavior and how he makes me feel multiple times and nothing changes he can't take accountability for his actions should I just give up and cut my losses and contact at this point? Unfortunately he pays for my college should I suck it up till I'm out of college or stop talking to him now?
TLDR: My family has been real jersey to me and I think no contact is my best option

2023.06.03 12:39 Resident1567899 A Hybrid Leibniz-Duns Scotus PSR Argument for the Classical Theistic God (with stage 2 of course)

Time for something new. I've been thinking for a while about this argument so I though I'd post it here. This is not a comprehensive argument though. This argument was inspired by Leibniz and Duns Scotus hence the name. The purpose is to garner possible rebuttals and objections so I can better improve it in my study.
This argument concerns stage 1 and stage 2. However, this post doesn't concern about which religion, it is only to prove the classical theistic god. Arguments about which religion are true use prophecies, miracles, etc...are beyond this post and will be ignored and downvoted.

(1) At least one contingent fact exists call it C
Should be relatively uncontroversial. By contingency, I mean in need of explanation/reason. I use explanation and reason interchangeably, they mean the same thing. By fact, I mean a proposition be it a human, animal, event, object, thing, etc...If you reject premise 1, then what do you classify all the objects around us? What's your metaphysical system then?

(2) Every contingent fact requires a sufficient reason
This invokes the Principle of Sufficient Reason (PSR) formulated by Leibniz and improved upon by Alexander Pruss. I'll give a few evidence, proofs and reasons to believe in it.
First, our entire scientific system and academic learning depends on being inquisitive and asking "why?" Asking this very question lead us to discover revolutionary scientific theories. Rejecting the PSR implies we shouldn't ask why nature is the way it is, in effect, stopping scientific progress,
Second, suppose we have a phenomenon and several plausible explanations. We then reasonably assume that the best of these explanations is probably the right one, at least if it is significantly better than the runner-up. We need a reason to choose the best one which is where the PSR comes in. Rejecting this leads to confusion and in-decision over which explanation is the best.
Third, PSR gives us support and grounding. If the PSR is false, what claim do we have to believe your life is not a simulation, that everything is just a dream. We need reason as our foundation for literally everything,
Fourth, a companions in guilt argument. If the law of excluded middle (LEM) is self-evident as a logical law, then why the PSR, the principle of reason itself should not?
Five, intuition. Humans are born with the capacity to reason and find the best explanation. Even babies do reasoning. No human lives without having the desire to find reason and explanation.
Six, rejecting the PSR is self-defeating. To reject the PSR, you'd need a sufficient reason itself why it's false which is literally what the PSR is.
Here's a more comprehensive defense of the PSR

(3) So, C requires a sufficient reason
This just logically follows from (1) and (2)

(4) Either the sufficient reason for C comes from being necessary, by itself, by being a brute fact or from another being
These are four options I could think of. I know of no other options beside these four.

(5) Not from being necessary since C is contingent
This is leads to a contradiction. An object can't be both necessary and contingent at the same time.

(6) Not from itself since circular reasoning is impossible
Example, stating the reason for me being born is because of myself is plainly wrong. A sufficient reason would be something like my mother being pregnant, etc...Another example of why this cup exists. It would be wrong and absurd to say because it exists since this explains nothing. A better reason would be because I created it. It has to be something other than itself and external.

(7) Not by being a brute fact since a brute fact has no reason/lacking a reason
Another contradiction. We've already defined C as being contingent and requiring a sufficient reason in (1) and (2). An object can't be both requiring a reason and yet has no reason/lacking reason, a contradiction.
A second problem is it's discriminatory. Why is only C a brute fact and not other contingent facts? Stuff like humans, dogs, cats, Beethoven, etc...? Why only C? Why can't all those other contingent facts also don't require a reason, i.e. being a brute fact? Why only one?

(8) So, it has to come from another being
By process of elimination, we arrive at the only non-contradictory option

(9) If it comes from another contingent being, then that being also needs a reason from another being and it is also contingent, then so on ad infinitum...
This just a simple inference. If it's contingent, then it still requires another source. I'll address infinity below.

(10) A infinite chain of explanations is not a sufficient explanation
This was proposed by Rowe and Pruss. I'll use Pruss' cannonball example. If we say the reason the cannonball is at t9 is because it was at t8 and so on...we haven't explain why the cannonball was launched itself. A sufficient reason would be because a soldier fired it. Another example, there are 7 Eskimos in New York City. Eskimo 1 is at street A, another Eskimo 2 is at street B,...until Eskimo 7 at street G. It's no good to explain why Eskimo 2 at street B is because of Eskimo 1 at street A and why Eskimo 7 is at street G is because of the prior Eskimo. We still haven't explain why there are Eskimos in the first place in NYC. A sufficient reason is because those 7 Eskimos are visting NYC on a field trip.

(11) So, it must come from a being of Pure Reason (BPR)
Meaning a being who's reason is himself i.e. a necessary being. Here ends stage 1 and begins stage 2.

(12) Reason is the result of intelligence and free will
Example, a rock can't reason or have intelligence and other examples. Only beings with intelligence and free will to think can create reason and do reasoning.

(13) So, this being can't be a natural being and must be a being of intelligence and free will
Follows from (12)

(14) This being must be singular since necessary propositions and reason would be contradictory
Example of a necessary proposition is 2+2=4. If there were multiple BPRs, then 2+2=4 is correct but so is 2+2=5. Both can't be true at the same time. If anyone answers, both beings can reconcile each other, I do not believe God can violate logic itself. I defined omniscience as being maximally knowledgeable. There are somethings God can't do.

(15) This being must be omniscience
This just follows that the source must be omniscience i.e. being maximally knowledgeable

(16) This being must be omnipotent
Only an omnipotent being would have the power to create all the logic and reason in the world (by world I mean a totality)

(17) This being is singular, has free will, has omnipotence and omniscience
Follows from the previous premises

(18) Therefore, this is what we call the classical theistic God
Follows as the conclusion. I take the classical theistic God to mean being singular, having free will, omnipotent and omniscience

(19), Therefore, the classical theistic God exists
Conclusion

Recap of the argument:
(1) At least one contingent fact exists call it C
(2) Every contingent fact requires a sufficient reason
(3) So, C requires a sufficient reason
(4) Either the sufficient reason for C comes from being necessary, by itself, by being a brute fact or from another being
(5) Not from being necessary since C is contingent
(6) Not from itself since circular reasoning is impossible
(7) Not by being a brute fact since a brute fact has no reason/lacking a reason
(8) So, it has to come from another being
(9) If it comes from another contingent being, then that being also needs a reason from another being and it is also contingent, then so on ad infinitum...
(10) A infinite chain of explanations is not a sufficient explanation
(11) So, it must come from a being of Pure Reason (BPR)
(12) Reason is the result of intelligence and free will
(13) So, this being can't be a natural being and must be a being of intelligence and free will
(14) This being must be singular since necessary logic and reason would be contradictory
(15) This being must be omniscience
(16) This being must be omnipotent
(17) This being is singular, has free will, has omnipotence and omniscience
(18) Therefore, this is what we call the classical theistic God
(19), Therefore, the classical theistic God exists

Now, I do not believe in this argument. I have my own rebuttals and objections but I'd like to see some new objections against this argument. This seems a better argument than the Kalam since it argues for both stage 1 and stage 2.

2023.06.03 12:38 broughtmyownbeer The thought of suicide is the only thing that brings me peace

Honestly I don’t even have time or space to give you all the reasons why I am suicidal, but I have been since I was a kid and the reasons kept adding on even as I’ve tried to get help through the years. I’ve tried almost everything and have genuinely tried to take care of this life but unfortunately things just got even worse when I was already at a vile state of my life. And I’m just exhausted.
I am now suicidal pretty much daily. There isn’t really a day I don’t think about it. And while it is such a dark thought the fact that I am this suicidal and depressed, at the same time I think I’ve slowly learned to accept death cuz yes I’ve been someone who has been scared of it before. Rn the only thing holding me back is the fact that I can’t do it painlessly or don’t know how to do it correctly and the fear of the unknown afterlife.
The only thing that brings me peace is thinking about moving to Canada and getting MAID. That’s it truly. And I’m down for it seriously. Everything else has been ruined and I have no one. It’s dark and sad but it’s beautiful that I’m at that point to where nothing is starting to matter.
Anyways Thanks for reading if u did. I hope u get a happier ending. Thanks for letting me breathe.

2023.06.03 12:38 gunpoliticsny Mayor Evans, County Executive Bello Proclaim June 2-4 Gun Violence Awareness Day and Wear Orange Weekend

https://www.cityofrochester.gov/article.aspx?id=21474852307
City of Rochester News Release
(Friday, June 2, 2023) – Mayor Malik D. Evans and County Executive Adam Bello proclaimed today through Sunday as Gun Violence Awareness Day and Wear Orange Weekend in Rochester and Monroe County, joining a national movement to associate gun violence with the color hunters wear to protect human life.
City and County leaders joined dozens of orange-clad members of the Rochester Peace Collective and the Roc Against Gun Violence Coalition Friday to read the joint proclamation and announce activities taking place throughout the month of June to enhance community collaboration in the fight against gun violence.
“The City of Rochester and County of Monroe are committed to ending gun violence with the support of law enforcement agencies at the local, state and federal levels; and a host of community partners, including the ROC Against Gun Violence Coalition and the Rochester Peace Collective,” the Mayor and County Executive stated in the joint City-County Proclamation. “We call on the people of Rochester and Monroe County to Wear Orange and come together as one community to heal, offer comfort and support, and join the movement to make gun violence a thing of the past.”
The wear-orange movement was initially conceived by the classmates of 15-year-old Hadiya Pendelton of Chicago, who was shot and killed on a school playground one week after marching in President Barack Obama’s inauguration parade.

2023.06.03 12:37 SnooChocolates6803 Current state of CAM?

Looking at various AIO's currently and the LCD display on the various Kraken coolers has caught my eye.
Doing some cursory searches yielded many horror stories of the CAM software (or bloatware) starting years ago. Reading about the forced telemetry, and seeing forced sudden firmware updates pumped the brakes on considering a Kraken AIO. However I can see in more recent posts here on Reddit that there has been some large changes that seem to be in a positive direction (such as getting rid of cloud profiles).
Are most or all of the ghosts of Christmas past resolved? Is it in a better place but still requires some intervention (blocking telemetry, GitHub fixes)? Should it be overlooked for open source alternatives? Or should I fall into the Raspberry Pi rabbit hole and forget Kraken entirely?
Thanks for any input!
